If you take a look at the release in 2014 when HxH "returned" it made exactly 9 chapters which is enough to make a volume. We get a build up in the latest chapter of going to the dark continent so I'm pretty sure this is a perfect time to get a "back injury"

It's not the writing that's the problem though it's the art. Look how bad people freaked at Kishi's assistant doing art. Granted HxH has had some bad art moments so it may be overlooked more so than with Boruto but it'd still hit resistance.
