Shinji's Sakanade does not work if someone just like, throw power around, it seems. Placing a giant like that in the illusion would've been dangerous because he'd be trashing around widely.

Soi-Fon cannot two-shot someone with greater Reiatsu than her, cf Aizen.

Before he got huge, Rukia was standing around, doing nothing. If she had gone Shikai and helped in the fight, Gerard would be frozen, and he wouldn't be able to use The Miracle.

Instead, she does nothing, and we have to waste several chapters pretending we care about Gerard's fight.

On a little Gerard? Her Bankai is just her Shikai on a larger area, as far as we know. Shikai would be sufficient to freeze someone small like Gerard. Bankai would only be needed if he used Miracle.

The problem is that Rukia did Nothing. She didn't even try. Now we know that would have actually ended the fight, I am therefore reasonably pissed off.

Rukia did nothing cuz she most likely thought byakuya an renhi was enough for him so she did nothing an watched them fight just like shinji did.
