Espadara here. For my story Naruto of the Shichinintai, Naruto is wandering around Kirigakure when he saves the life of a young orphaned girl. However, while Naruto manages to heal her, he is unable to restore her vocal cords. Naruto and the mute girl, Saki, begin traveling together so Naruto can safely get her to Kirigakure during the time of the Bloodline Rebellion.

Any tips on writing a mute character?

I have a story with a mute character as well, so I think I can help you in some direction. First because she is recently muted, obviously this is going to be a huge change. But she'll be used to communicating, so I guess you can go in the direction of her attempting to write things out to talk to Naruto or whoever, even though this is slower. Because this is a slow method, you can make her rely on short words and sentences to get her point across, it saves time.

Another thing is that even though vocal chords are damaged, mute characters are still capable of things like sighing. I also think that mute characters would have be conscious of how expressive they are with body language and facial expressions. Emotions and tone don't always translate to paper or handsigns well, especially when you cut down on vocab to save time.

Thanks for all of your advice! It might be rather difficult (She used to be a super optimistic Genki Girl, Naruto kinda acts withdrawn), but Im sure I'll manage. Keep the advice coming!
