I have a friend who has an old DG33 MoBo and he just bought an AMD HD 7850 2Gb graphics card. Ok, but when he tried to use it on his PCIe port, his display doesn't turn on sometimes, and when it does, it just freezes when the BIOS screen appears. We've tried the graphics card in other PCs and it's working just fine so...what's the problem there, any ideas? Here're there specs:

Intel DG33 MoBo, 4 GB Ram DDR2 800 MHz, CPU Core2Quad 6600, 500watts, 30 amps power supply, Windows 7 64 bits.

We're not friends. Therefore, I am stupid.

Sorry, can't help.
Well...you said it yourself! And don't you worry: i wasn't really expecting any help coming from you so you didn't let me down at all.

On what other specification did you tried to use graphic card ?
The other Pcs were socket 1155 mostly...and a 775 one so i think that's not the problem. The card is an HIS IceQ so it might be a compatibility issue, i've heard those cards can do that sometimes...dunno.

What are the specs of your frnds PC?
is his RAM also DDR2?
My friend's PC uses DDR 2 800 MHz, but i've also tried it in DDR3 from 1333 to 2400 MHz and other DDR2 so...meh...

i thought you were a loser
He is, big boss. And you're truly the smartest guy in here, word.

before goin for a video card upgrade....
the first thing 2 check is the compatibility....

&
  • PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard
  • 500W (or greater) power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended[SUP]7 [/SUP]so for AMD HD 7850
so, I'm sure that this DG33 has certified pos,
& rest of all ur spec. seems good,
also a x86- 64 bit of ur O.S. is a perfect match 4 the card & the architecture itself
but HIS IceQ sucks out unnecessary power in case of non-std mobo comp.
& it won't b the issue 4 DG33 I guess
& if it's right &good 2go,
update your friends mother board B.I.O.S. after checking the current bios ver.
U said its an old mobo...
so, if u have bought a new grap. adap...
the prob. might b with the bios itself...

perform
any one of the update method...according 2 the firmware support ,which u can check in the above links...

but do check the version...before doin so,

& if doesn't solve the problem,
more likely it must b a hardware based issue,
which requires the PcIe slot 2 b replaced or performing a hardwire check of the mobo
I'd like 2 investigate furthur...
based on the details u can provide me with...
