While the situation is not nice to hear about ....... Dont u guys think is some deeper problem that is the root of incidents like this?
General lack of parenting. Self-indulgent, short-sighted behaviors are recursively intensified within the offspring of portions of the population that do not properly discipline themselves. These behaviors become the new paradigm for 'normal' and 'expected' behaviors as the consequences of these behaviors lead to elevated reproductive rates. Balancing factors have been decoupled from the equation by government programs that award financial income to irresponsible people in amounts increasing relative to the number of children.
Welfare should come at a cost. Your tubes get tied and you no longer get to vote for legislative and executive offices nor on budget issues. All rights to vote shouldn't be forfeit - but if you go on welfare, you should no longer get a ballot that has "do you want to vote yourself a raise" on it. That's a conflict of interest.
Then we could start by simply shutting down every state sponsored school/class above the 4th grade. Basic core should be basic - Reading, writing, arithmetic, the Scientific Method and the structure of our government as it is outlined in the Constitution. Hold them to a standard that actually means something. Then let them go elsewhere to get the more advanced ideas and concepts (such as the community college where half the classes are a re-hash of stuff the 'tards didn't learn in 6th grade and still didn't understand by the time they got out of 12th).
I can do without the government taxing me to brainwash my kid into giving world peace speeches and earning a certification that amounts to not wearing a dunce cap. Plus, the fewer excuses parents can give regarding their kids, the better. "Oh, the schools should teach that."
That - or we should just turn public school into a military academy and assume proper responsibility for trying to parent everyone's kid. At least be honest about it (of course, it wouldn't be necessary if more people were parenting their kids rather than trying to be their buddy/pal/friend/etc) - and actually instill some structure in their lives rather than half-assing it.
Though I'm sure that would go over like a turd in the punch bowl.
