I have System Mechanic and I did a duplicate file check with it, It says I have almost 12 GB of duplicate files. I downloaded a free duplicate file finder online and it found even more but most of them were different than what System Mechanic came up with. Can anyone give me a few names of some reliable duplicate file finders? Some of those files were svc and dll and drivers so I'm afraid to delete anything even though they were duplicates. Do duplicate finders help you figure out what is safe to delete?

I have a 3 year old Dell Inspiron N7110 with 2 4GB memory cards and it's still running slow. Windows 7 OS, i5, 2.40GHZ w/576 GB hard drive that is 83% free. I don't have malware or viruses, I do disk clean up daily, I clear the cache a few times a day, I defragment a few times a week, I've deleted programs I don't use. I've cut back on start up programs and services, I've stopped indexing, and I've turned off almost all visual effects. Is there anything else I can do to speed this machine up?

It will free up some space on your HDD. It wont affect your laptops performance in any way.
Your laptop has fair spec to run smoothly. Probably you have so many adwares and other shit installed like duplicate file removers.

Thanks, I'll try the software. I was trying to avoid spending the money on the repair. Someone quoted me a price of $250.00 the other day and was mostly talking about starting stopped processes and services and stopping others that didn't need to be on. That's a lot of money for something I did myself with a little research. I'm also getting a new wireless modem from my ISP for free the one I have hasn't been upgraded in 5 years so maybe that will help. I also upgraded to a higher mps connection so I'll see what happens, thanks again.

2.4GB memory cards? Lol
Well, I might be wrong but I'm not sure having duplicate files can make your pc run slow even when you have 83% free space. You could run task manager, click on processes and check which processes are using up a lot of your memory. If you don't need them, end them.
And I also recommend running check disk. (Press the windows button together with the letter 'R' then type 'chkdsk')
Good luck. Slow pc's can be such a pain -_-)

Two 4GB memory card for a total of 8GB. Two slots that can take 4GB each. I've used task manager already. I will try the check disk though. Thank you *_*.
