Naruto base is easy and you'll learn a lot by just clicking your way here and there on the base.
Read the sections' descriptions and you'll probably find something which interests you.

In general, it is so that someone makes a thread in a section which is appropriate for the topic, and in this thread you post replies and there are even polls to participate in at times.
You can also make your own thread like you have now, and I don't think you'll have trouble posting considering you made this thread in the first place!xd

A tip is to start out by doing what you have for these past months, snoop around and get a feel for the site.

Oh, and there are lots of functions to use such as posting pictures and YouTube videos(link to them) etc.

You just make a request in this section:

You must be registered for see links

That is, make a thread and tell the ones fixing it for you how you want it done, providing your own picture/-s.

Edit: Oh, and as simple math says, the avatar is the picture to the left of your post below your name.
Making a request means you want that picture or another changed somehow from its original appearance.
