Just to avoid any confusion, this is the first of three chapters that isn’t written in Justin’s perspective, basically because he wasn’t there to recount this partxd This one should give a bit of insight as to what he’s gotten himself into. Enjoy
A look of obvious frustration on his face, presumably because he might be missing the screams of agony he enjoyed so much, Lucifer threw back the heavy doors of Shaitan’s palace. The inside of the deteriorating fortress was illuminated only by dim lanterns that decorated the walls of the main hall, which was adorned with a tattered, blood-red carpet. As it was throughout the landscape that rested on the other side of the burning lake, the heat within the palace was intense, endured by Lucifer only because he had spent the past several millennia living within the confines of this realm. …An eternity spent in scorching heat and blinding darkness, …so was Shaitan’s punishment for rising up against God.
After a moment spent walking down the dark corridor, Lucifer eventually came to its end, which was marked by the presence of two dimly lit torches. Passing between them, the already spacious hall poured out into an even larger room, also decorated by red carpet and several small lanterns. At the opposite end of this room sat two more torches, behind which the floor broke off into several small steps, each adorned by another strip of carpet. …At the top of these steps, which ascended about eight feet, rested an old, worn-out throne, black as the skies above the demon city, …though no one was sitting in it. …Kneeling in front of it, though, …encased in numerous chains held together by the power of God himself, …was the living form of Shaitan, weak and pathetic, …having lost all of his once-great beauty as he made the fall from on high. …As if by means of astral projection, his spirit stood up from where his body still knelt…and turned around to face his greatest follower.
“…Kneel, Lucifer.”
Without question, the great demon obeyed his command.
“Forgive me, my Lord. …You summoned me?”
“Hmmm…yes, I did, actually. …Do you know why?”
As he spoke, Shaitan’s spirit slowly began descending the steps, although Lucifer took no notice, as his gaze was fixed on the ground.
“No, sir. I do not.”
“…Hmmhmmhmmhmmhmm, …of course not. …It’s because of your arrogance, your pride, that you see no fault in the actions you take. …I see them, though. I see everything that happens in this realm of my domain…and I am very disappointed in the things I’ve seen you do, Lucifer.”
His subordinate knew of what he was speaking, …though even then, he was still confused. …This was the first time Shaitan had ever spoken to any of his Princes about the escape attempts they allowed on occasion.
“My Lord, never before have you spoken against these-”
“FOOL!!”
Looking up completely unaware, Lucifer suddenly found himself several inches above the ground, …his neck squeezed tightly beneath the hand of his ruler.
“You’ve got nerve, you spineless, little wretch, …, all of you, toying with my souls as if they were your own! …And now, your ignorance has cost me one of those I prize above all others.”
“What the…that kid? My Lord, what value could possibly be in the soul of a pathetic weasel such as that!?”
“IMBECILIC SWINE, WHAT IMPUDENCE!!”
“Master, if Justin Drayton means so much to you, then simply wait for him to be sent back by one of your creations! …What makes you believe that he’ll survive for very long outside of the Core!?”
“BECAUSE HE SHOULDN’T BE IN HELL AT ALL!!”
Having become fed up with Lucifer’s tone, Shaitan placed all of his strength in the arm being used to lift him, …sending him crashing into the tiled floor before raising him up again and tossing him across the room. …Somewhat shocked by this new revelation, Lucifer lifted himself up and looked to his king in utter astonishment.
“My Lord, I…I had no idea-”
“YES, OF COURSE YOU DIDN’T!! …Why else would you ever do something so incredibly stupid!?”
Still seething with anger, Shaitan turned around and began walking back up the steps to where his physical form still knelt. …Recognizing what awaited him should he fail to bring Justin back to the Core, Lucifer brought himself up to one knee and made his pledge to do so.
“My Lord, I swear on my own existence, I will find this worm and drag him back into your clutches!”
“Hmph, …such fortitude on the surface, …yet I see your ignorance still renders you blind to the consequences of your actions…and the difficulty involved in redeeming them.”
“…Sir?”
“Idiot! …I merely took ahold of him before he could pass through the gates of God’s kingdom, …the one time that the souls of his favorite creations are most inclined to slip through his all-powerful fingers…and directly into mine. …That child belongs to God, …not I. …And, therefore, he shall have his assistance on his journey out of my domain…and not until he sends his most powerful servants to retrieve him may I send mine to do the same!”
The mere thought caused Lucifer to cringe as the images of God's Seven Archangels began circling through his mind. …One, in particular, stood out from the rest.
“…Gabriel…”
“…I will not fall to them, my Lord.”
“You’d do well not to, Lucifer, …or else, you will fall to me. …Never before has one of my stolen souls ventured outside of the Core. …I will not tolerate any further advancement on his part, …even if it means killing him…once he passes through the Border.”
As Shaitan reached the highest step and began to reattach his spirit to his physical form, he turned around one last time to ensure that Lucifer was now fully aware of what awaited him, …should the worst come to pass.
“…Yes, master.”
“Good. …Now then, call upon the rest of my servants.”
“Yes, my Lord. …May I ask for what purpose?”
“…To prepare. …This will be the first time that you have ever left this realm of my domain…since the seven of you led my army in the battle against the one demon older than myself.”
