All jokes aside I would like to make this a serious discussion (I know I know Ive asked one too many already)

Ok so heres the topic for this thread. . . HELL. . dun dun duun.

I dont particularly believe in Hell even though im really religious. From what Ive read of the Bible there is no mention of an eternal torture after your death (for being a sinner). Jesus mentions Hell but hes not speaking of a fiery hell he is actually speaking of a hill they call Hell where people were thrown off to their death. The real name was Gehenna and people would throw anything there. So egyptians would keep a fire at all times mostly with sulfur so they could burn anything. Ive done research on this and "hell" was an actual place outside of egypt.

I want to hear from those that believe and have their insight on this. If you do decide to answer and try to prove wrong then please use bible verses . . . . . So then I can explain to you the real interpretation

Ok, here's some google results I got indicating hell is fiery and such.

Revelation 14:11, “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.” - Smoke, indicating fire.

Mathew 18:8 and 25:41, “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. ... Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels.” - fire

Isaiah 5:14…
“Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it.” - Personifying hell as a woman with a mouth.

Numbers 26:10…
“And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign.” - "her" referring to hell. "Swallowed" referring to the mouth. While in hell, fire devoured them. Therefore indicating fire in hell.

Mark 9:45,46…

Wait WHAT? Why wouldnt you want to read too much into it if you believe in God. It's the only way you'll ever get rid of misconceptions such as an eternal torture after your life is done. Do you want to keep on believing in Hell? Do you want to live your life with an ignorant misconceptions of what Jesus said.

I made this thread because atheist use Hell as the main reason why anyone shouldn't believe in God. I made this thread because people live in fear of a nonexistent afterlife.

I mainly tell others how Christianity is a form of fear and historical ignorance and fallacy...but sure let's go with that XD

That's not really an argument to disprove God. That's more of a "Your god isn't as loving as you think, you really don't have free will if you wish to get into heaven because you have to abide by rules" sort of a thing. There's better reasons to not believe in God in my opinion.

My my where should I start?

Ok let me start off by replying to the first quote from revelation. This is saying that anyone who worships the devil wil be punished severely. Well this is not the afterlife this is actually here on earth. Notice it says revelation. . . . . This is the revelation (or prediction) of whats going to happen in end times HERE on earth. This is the rapture that will punish all sinners but it is not everlasting because Jesus christ will come to stop the beast. So no it doesnt prove hell.

Next is Numbers, it is not talking about hell. Its a punishment from God because these men had rebelled against Moses. Their lives were extinguished and only that. They did not fall into an eternal torture of fire. God was showing his power for the world to see and let it be known that Moses was his prophet and that all would fall before him.

Im going to make the other ones simpler. Mark, Matthew and Isaiah were disciples of Jesus Christ so they were basically repeating what Christ told them. The "eternal fire" is a metaphor for Gods eternal judgement. (See Mathew 13:37-13:43). So it is better for you to forget all sin before you are thrown into gods judgement and be seen unfit for his kingdom. Thats what the eternal fire is.

Ever since the old testament God has told us to fear him and nothing else. Why would he make something so terrible that we stop fearing him and start fearing this nonexistent place? It is illogical.

@Pavoneo, Basically the worst thing that can happen to nyone for not following Gods commandments is that they will be cut off from his kingdom. He will not flourish (family wise). He will not live his life to the fullest and will wrinkle up and die like a dead tree branch. Have you ever tried to burn a dead tree branch and a green one that was barely cut from the tree. Which one burns faster? The dead one. So this is the parable that jesus christ uses in trying to explain how god will weed out the bad from the good.

(The "everlasting fire" is parable for his everlasting judgement)
