oh i thought that was sasuke retrieval arc naruto. If it's gaara retrieval arc then he does matter. His base skills improved and with those annoying shadow clones, he can give sasuke enough time to make it one on one. And might even be able to take on hanzo if we exclude hype. But still he doesn't change results as sasuke with CM2 is decisive factor here.

Better CQC abilities than Sasuke even as an old, ET resisting man, poison mist that paralysed his own men in the same room as him accidentally & Ibuse to spread that mist across a forest in seconds = enough feats i'd say personally
