It would seem Merlin didn't quite understand the gravity of the situation. Had it been so long since he'd been taken seriously by anyone that he'd forgotten how to extend that same courtesy? Had he completely forgotten who was standing before him? They were his "perfect ideal King". The young woman into whose ear he whispered thoughts of grandeur. The woman he raised to be King. Now he played the part of court jester, not trusted advisor? Would he not give her the respect she was due as King? Truly, his treachery knew no bounds. It would seem he truly abandoned her and Camelot on that day, as she suspected. Her stoic facade remained the entire time, even as he dared to compare her to the usurper Vortigern. Normally such a comparison would anger her, but upon realizing the man she knew was naught but a lie, another of his cheap illusions, a fabrication forged to achieve a similarly cheap end, she let the insult pass. For she was a merciful King.

"I suppose it is for the best. No words from that forked tongue of yours will never amount to more than hollow lies."

And she would bestow upon him yet another mercy. That of atonement for his original sin. Drawing her blade back in her right hand with the tip still pointed at him, her other hand palm open in front of herself aimed squarely at Merlin, the air itself began to whip and cry out in pain, yet there was no accompanying action. The grass beneath their feet, and the heavy canopy above their heads began to sway and buckle and bend, yet the cause wasn't visible. Perhaps he'd recognize it, perhaps not, but as Artoria thrust her sword in his direction, the same phenomena would occur in reverse, the grass whipping about in a frenzy, the trees trunks screaming in agony, but whatever action accompanied the thrust was entirely invisible. Perhaps it was a warning, or perhaps she meant to kill him with the strike outright. Regardless, she was indeed here to exchange more than passive aggressive words and thinly veiled threats, and no words from him could convince her otherwise. This was a long time coming...

(Fūton: Atsugai) - Wind Style: Pressure Damage
Type: Offensive
Rank: A-Rank
Range: Short - Long
Chakra: 30
Damage: 100
Description: The user does the Ram handseal and inhales, kneading his chakra into his lungs, exhaling a huge blast of wind that levels anything in its path. Can cause major damage and requires a sufficient chakra level to perform. This large wind blast moves in tremendous speed and cannot be controlled. If the user gets caught in it, it will harm him also.

Official Challenge: Artoria, Sword of █████████ vs Merlin, Magus of Flowers.

Ah, there she was. A glimpse of King Arthur beneath Vortigern's vile veneer. For as much as she resembled the Usurper, perhaps she was still Artoria at her core. Though she had never displayed such hostility to the incubus in her lifetime, such vitriol was not unheard of when directed to her enemies, or those who earned her ire. This time, Merlin fell under the latter category. As the forest's stir turned to turbulence beneath the might of the King, Merlin rose to his feet, her stance all too familiar. Forming the Tiger seal, a mass of azure flames would materialise before Merlin, empowered further by an infusion of energy.

"O' Vivian."

Thrusting his arms forward, his fingers straightened but still interlocked, the flames would lurch forward, meeting the raging current of wind that tore through the once tranquil forest. They were equal in formlessness only, the very slight advantage of the Mystic Fire's power allowing it to emerge the victor of the clash. This attack alone, however, would not suffice even as a distraction to Artoria, who had felled beings far mightier than any human in her lifetime. With this in mind, the Magus of Flowers had to act quickly. Activating his woodskin, he would remain still but poised to react at any time, his technique generating and blending the Natural Energy around him with his own chakra on his behalf. The red veins once visible only on his wrist were now crawling up his neck, encroaching on his cheeks. With a thin smile, Merlin would declare his intent to the Once and Future King.

Type: Offensive, Defensive, Supplementary
Rank: D – S
Range: Short – Long
Chakra: 10 – 40 + 10 = 50 (-10 per turn)
Damage: 20 – 80 + 30 = 110
Description: This technique encompasses the flame-like, wispy, energy base of Mystic Fire Release and allows the user to concentrate chakra in an area, whether it is from their body, through the ground, or even in the air. In the case of the flames being produced from the air they are unable to be created within short-range of the opponent, unless the user is within short-range as well. Flames produced from the ground possess an audible queue giving slight warning to the target should they emerge from beneath them. These flames can be manipulated to a high degree allowing the user to produce a wide variety of constructs and shapes, generally limited by their own imagination. Alternatively Primordial Creation can also be used to create simple streams, fireballs, blasts, and waves of flame. These flames can be, at the user’s volition, concentrated to effectively solidify allowing them to punch through physical obstacles and cause explosive damage. The flames of Mystic Fire by default adhere to the violet spectrum but can be manipulated to fit any color in the visible light spectrum. Alternatively they can seal their light entirely causing them to appear akin to the black flames of Amaterasu. Applications above A-Rank require a single hand seal. Sustaining this technique requires the user expend ten chakra per turn. S-Rank can be used four times per battle and cannot be used in consecutive turns.

Type: Supplementary
Rank: A – S
Range: N/A (Short – Long)
Chakra: N/A (+10 – 20)
Damage: N/A
Description: Pillar of the Two Horizons focuses on the nature of Dendera Light as a superconductor of energy. This technique is an infusion with two usages that revolve around this quality, imbuing any energy-based technique of choice with unique effects upon the incorporation of extra chakra into said technique. Performing either of these applications can be done so in the same timeframe as the creation of the chosen target, or anytime it is on the field, and each infusion’s duration is equivalent to that of the chosen target.

East Horizon: The lesser A-Rank application, Earth Horizon infuses the targeted technique with additional chakra (+10), and applies two effects. The first, and more basic effect, is a simple increase in power, equivalent to +1 Rank, with techniques above S-Rank being granted +20 damage instead. The second is the effective transformation of the targeted jutsu into a superconductor, allowing for the total absorption of techniques it clashes with. Though Dendera Light already has the natural capacity to absorb energy, this technique enhances that quality. Absorption follows the S&W scheme of the host technique (equal rank for neutral elements, one rank higher for elements weak to it, one rank lower for elements strong to it). Techniques based in Lightning Release (having Lightning as a component or being Lightning Release) and respecting the S&W of the jutsu targeted by East Horizon will be passively absorbed without weakening it, but techniques which are of sufficient strength or aren't based in Lightning Release will clash normally instead. The East Horizon requires a single turn cooldown between uses, and can be used four times per battle.

West Horizon: The West Horizon is the greater S-Rank application, and greatly enhances the effects exhibited by the East Horizon. The first being the amount of power granted by the infusion. By infusing a greater quantity of chakra (20 chakra cost, but the technique only gains +10 points), the technique will gain an additional 30 damage points. The absorption capability is identical to the effects outlined in East Horizon, though the range at which the targeted jutsu can absorb other techniques is greatly increased (jutsu up to mid-range away can be absorbed, respecting the aforementioned conditions). The West Horizon can be used twice per battle, and requires a two turn cooldown between usages. For the remainder of the turn in which West Horizon is activated, the user cannot perform other Dendera Light techniques above B-Rank, and for the duration of the subsequent turn, the user's Dendera Light is limited to A-Rank and below.

Type: Supplementary
Rank: A
Range: N/A
Chakra: 50
Damage: N/A
Description: Flesh of the Incubus is an ability which results from the combination of one's overflowing vitality, that is, an already powerful life force made greater by mastery over Yang Release, with their ability to utilise Wood Release at its highest form. Because of the latter condition, it is an ability unique to Merlin. It takes the form of a woodskin that perfectly mimics the user's appearance and anatomy, even replicating the feeling of normal skin, which is present on the body at all times, and is bolstered by Yang Release. The benefits granted by this are twofold; not only is the physical integrity of the wood greatly bolstered, allowing it to reduce incoming physical damage by 40 points, but the woodskin itself is granted sentience, allowing it to automatically balance the delicate ratio between Natural Energy and chakra on the user's behalf, meaning that the user no longer needs to remain still in order to generate Sage Chakra properly, nor are their abilities limited whilst generating Sage Chakra. The woodskin itself allows the user to convert more of their own chakra reserves into Sage Chakra per turn, an additional 5%, for a total of 10% per turn. This technique can be kept active to continue generating Sage Chakra at an increased rate beyond the minimum threshold, up to its maximum, though the Mode will not empower the user or their techniques, as per the normal method of meditation and usage. While Sage Mode is in proper use, the woodskin will no longer generate Sage Chakra, though its other properties will remain active. In order to utilise Flesh of the Incubus, the user requires the Yang Release specialty. Flesh of the Incubus can be used a total of three time per battle, lasting 5 turns per usage as well as a three turn cooldown in between usages.

As Merlin's flames seemingly only barely overcame the winds that were only incidentally created by releasing a Restraint on her once Holy blade, she wondered how he could possibly fare moving forward. There were no signs of struggle from the Magus himself, but they were there in the flames. This was not out of compassion of course, she meant to kill him. She was simply aware he could be playing the fool as he always did, holding back, keeping several dozen contingencies hidden in reserve. She would not play this game. Merlin's answer was to resist her will, to defy the judgement she would render upon him. Her stoic expression remained even as her winds were engulfed in mystical flames. For the Magus of Flowers to rely upon fire, an element in direct opposition to that of nature? It was comical how much he'd changed. She kept a measured tone even as his flames were barrelling down upon her.

"When you've told your last tale and you look to those around you for your ovations, what will you fear more I wonder...
The answer, or the echo?"

The answer did not matter. She knew he would most likely never be happy with either scenario, for as one who prophecized great events, who foretold of cataclysmic futures in obscure riddles, that is to say one whose job it was to tell stories, to have none left to tell would mean an end to his purpose, or perhaps the end of everything. Indeed, to have no stories left to tell would be a saddening thing indeed. But sorrow alone would not stay her hand, nor hinder her blade as it tore him asunder. What he would realize was that Artoria's initial assault was a mercy, and one she would not repeat. A lesson he would learn immediately. She was not here to slowly build up to some grand crescendo. This was a matter of life and death, specifically his, and she would act accordingly. Picturing the faces and names of the Round Table, she remembered the conditions each asked of her to meet to allow the use of her power. More than half of them released instantly, and in that moment her raven blade cried out in a tortured scream, engulfed in a shroud of crimson and violet. Where once this blade held the hopes and dreams of the planet, a crystallization of Humanity's desire and will to survive, and overcome any external threat, now it was a blackened hammer of hatred, and it was focused solely on Merlin. Drawing the blade back towards her body, taking it in both hands then raising it above her head, the shroud expanded into an ocean, a mass of unfathomable depth and scope, so deep and dark one could drown in it. And with a rage fueled scream, she brought down the full weight of her convictions down upon the Magus.

"EXCALIBUR!!"

(Yakusokusareta Shori no Ken) - Excalibur Morgan: Sword of Promised Victory
Type: Offensive
Rank: Forbidden
Range: Short - Long
Chakra: 250
Damage: 180
Description: Excalibur Morgan, or the Black Sword of Ultimate Light, draws upon the user’s Chakra in considerable amounts to amplify it, similar to Excalibur, and produce a devastating blast of energy capable of reshaping continents similar to the Juubi’s destructive power. The energy manifests alongside the blade’s edge and is released from this point as a wave of energy that can vary in size, being expanded as needed or kept proportional to the sword. It possesses an enormous amount of energy that possesses neutrality to all techniques that can clash with it.

From the swing a black wave of energy cleaved through Merlin's flames through raw strength alone. There was no underlying ideals or purpose beneath the vile veneer of the attack, it was destruction pure and true for destruction's own sake, and it was dedicated to him alone. Whether through sheer power or the insane amount of energy present, it did not matter, the wave of energy from the blackened Excalibur tore through Merlin's mystical flames in a direct line, threatening to engulf him. Even before the wave had reached him, the plant life before him and Artoria would begin to wither and die, and from the sheer scope of the wave that was being thrown at him, it would appear that it would not be content with simply taking his life. It threatened to alter the very land itself, mountains and seas swallowed by Artoria's absolute rage. Were Merlin's tricks enough to save him, or would he drown in the assault. She did not care. She would keep firing until not a trace of the Mage remained, until even his ashes were reduced to nothing.

Even she raised her sword, its blade wreathed in obsidian flame, Merlin's grin was a permanent fixture on his face. Something had changed in him; where he would once have been afraid of the Sword of Promised Victory being turned against him, he was now excited by its promised destruction. He revelled in her twisted state, the culmination of kingdom and kingship doomed to fail. It delighted him so.

Flushing his body with highly concentrated physical energy, he would dart to the left of Artoria in a wide arc, avoiding the blast of energy fired by Excalibur as it tore through the forest. With a single seal and the flick of his wrist, he would project a stake of Wood from his right arm, taking the shape of a sword vaguely resembling Caliburn; Merodach. The Original Sin, and the origin of the very idea of a 'Sword of Selection'. As such, it would be more accurate to say that Caliburn resembled Merodach. Bolstered by a coating of Osmium, the former Court Magus of Camelot would raise his sword overhead, poised to strike Artoria with Merodach from her left flank. Swinging down on her head, a memory of a time long passed flashed in his mind, burning away as quickly as it came.

The days they spent at Ector's estate, sparring with wooden swords.

Type: Supplementary
Rank: S-Rank
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 100 (50 per turn)
Damage points: N/A (+40 to Taijutsu)
Description: The user will reinforce his own body with Yang natured chakra, empowering his physical abilities to the outermost limits. This allows him to become physically very strong (beyond the normal levels of chakra enhanced strength), increases his resistance to physical damage (decreasing 60 damage from any physical contact), his speed (boosted to 3.5x his normal speed), and grants him a passive healing of all minor wounds at 30 damage per turn. However, by infusing himself with the Yang Nature, he becomes unable to use Yin Release techniques or Yin/Yang Release techniques; he cannot use Genjutsu or non elemental Ninjutsu of any kind (including special fields like Fuuinjutsu).
Note: Can only be used twice per battle and lasts 4 turns per use.

Type: Offensive, Defensive, Supplementary
Rank: D – S (F)
Range: Short – Long
Chakra: 10 – 40 (50) (-5 per turn)
Damage: 20 – 80 (90)
Description: Phantasms of the Lake is the ability of Wood Release users to produce structures of Wood from their own body, serving as offensive or defensive armaments. These constructs can be created in any number and can possess unique designs or characteristics to suit the user’s needs. They can be wielded by the user or shot from anywhere on the body at a target, but can be no larger than five meters in length or width. A unique aspect of these Wood structures is that they carry the pseudo-sensory properties of the seeds in Wood Release: Tracking Seeds. The structures can detect phenomena such as movement (through vibrations sent through the air or ground), physical pressure or energy (e.g. chakra and techniques) within a fifteen meter radius, making them a unique reconnaissance tool. Due to being made from the user’s DNA, anything the structures detect is mentally relayed back to the user, conferring precise awareness of each structure and what happens around them. Constructs created through Phantasms of the Lake also exhibit the ability to absorb Bijū techniques, such as Bijūdama, their cloaks and techniques based on these skills. Constructs can be sustained by passively spending five chakra points per turn. The A-Rank variant can be used five times per battle, and the S-Rank variant three times per battle, with the latter requiring a single turn cooldown between usages. No Wood above A-rank for one turn after S-rank variant.

Type: Supplementary
Rank: B
Range: N/A
Chakra: 20 (+10)
Damage: N/A
Description: Black Edge is a supplementary technique aimed to enhance the strength of the user's techniques which are derived from solid and liquid elements, such as Earth and Water Release, and other CE/AE of a similar nature to the aforementioned basic elements. By infusing additional chakra into a chosen technique, in the same timeframe as its creation or anytime it is on the field, the user forcibly produces Osmium within its mass, bolstering its structural integrity by taking advantage of the element's own density. This results in the strength of the targeted technique being increased by an additional rank, or +20 damage for jutsu above S-Rank. Defensive techniques or ones without damage will be capable of defending against one rank higher than usual. For Earth Release techniques and AE/CE of a solid nature, the strengthened jutsu will turn darker, its surface resembling a writhing mass of minerals due to the nature of light reflecting off the element itself, as a result of the infusion. In the case of Water Release and AE/CE of a liquid nature, they will darken to the point of almost resembling oil. Black Edge does not alter the inherent properties of targeted techniques, or their strengths and weaknesses. This technique can be used four times per battle with a one turn cooldown and requires a single handseal upon use.

As the wave of purple energy tore through the land, and would continue to do so for long after her swing concluded tearing the face of Kamiyasumi asunder for miles, Artoria was sure she'd gotten the drop on him. The Merlin she knew was a sniveling coward who hid behind illusions, trickery and lies. He taught her that using one's power in a rampant fashion was not King-like. It give the impression of a tyrant, not a loving king. Well, she had long since abandoned his teachings, and the Artoria standing before him now was one who lead through example, and her example was now carved on the face of the very planet. Compared to her, Merlin would never leave his mark, on her, or the world. A coward and a fool to the bitter end, or so she thought. As he appeared in an instant on her left, black blade in hand, already swinging down on her, it brought her no small amount of satisfaction to see him take on a more direct approach, as though he recognized his former tactics were wrong, and this was indeed the best way to win. It certainly was his best way to win. Cheap tricks and fancy illusions would do nothing to stop her blade.

She didn't know from where this power came, all that mattered was that he was clearly different from the man he once was. Artoria couldn't stop Merlin's attack before it hit her. He approached from her flank at speeds far to fast to predict nor notice until it was too late. All she could do to avoid fatal blow was to tilting her head out of the way of the strike, still suffering critical damage, but with the blade cutting deep into her armor and neck, rather than her head. Eyes honed on the Mage of Flowers and his uncharacteristic brutality on display, Artoria took her left hand and grabbed Merlin's blade, while immediately following with her own freeform strike (100 damage), heaving her blade in her right hand with a rising slash at the mage's torso, aiming to return the favor by bisecting him from left hip to right torso. She would not stop there however. Raising the blade above her head once more, she flooded it with yet more blackened Chakra, causing the blade to erupt once more into an ocean of purple and red, as deep and dark as the endless abyss that is the Void. With a labored scream, she then swung down, aiming to erase Merlin from existence, the same way he was responsible for Camelot's erasure. Of course, the truth was far more complex... Her Camelot was not his. She emerged from the seeds on his back. She was not "his" Artoria. She was someone else entirely. But he was still guilty of that sin, no matter what reality it occurred within. To her it didn't truly matter. He was guilty, and he would pay. He had to. There was no one else left to deliver this justice, no one else who truly knew the man behind the flowery facade he put on.

The blade of Merodach lodged itself into Artoria's neck, cleaving through both armour and flesh, but falling short of being a killing stroke. Though pleased by the grievous wound inflicted upon his King, he was well aware that the battle was not yet over, even in his manic state. The wooden construct warned him of her movement, her left arm rising to grab hold of the blade as the rest of her body twisted in preparation to strike him down. Leaning into the enhancement bestowed by Power of the Sun, he summons a colossal amount of strength and tightens his grip on his weapon. As the blade of Excalibur whistled through the air towards the Magus of Flowers, he committed to removing her head from her body, completing the cleave that he initially performed. Artoria's strike, however, was aimed true. The abyssal blade of Excalibur tore through his flesh, its vile essence poisoning the open wound, dyeing it in purple miasma. Despite the physical augmentation to his body, the blow still dealt great damage, causing Merlin to double over and gasp in pain, his grip immediately loosening on Merodach. Due to the simultaneous nature of the blows, Merlin's strike did not behead the King of Knights, instead slashing a fuller, deeper wound in her neck. The two fell to the ground, with Merlin clutching his stomach and his face contorted in pain. Even still, he bore a thin smile, looking down on his former King. His love. The crimson veins on his face began to recede, now only reaching partway up his neck. His mind torn between malice and melancholy, he struggled to form words to say to the girl he raised, trained, advised, and abandoned. A sensation of numbness overcame him, dulling his senses, even his awareness of tears welling in his eyes. He could not help but grieve and savour the logical endpoint of Artoria's rule. A second coming of misery and death.

A miscalculation and it was all but over. Merlin had blindsided her with speed and strength she'd never known him to have, and landed a critical strike. Her hollow armor buckled inward in an attempt at mitigating the damage, just as she reached for the blade to halt it's progress as she swung back with her own. Though her blackened blade hit it's mark, nothing could really be done to stop Merlin's own blade from advancing through her neck and torso, cleaving armor, flesh and bone. Just like that, it was done. Over. She would never attain her goal. Merlin would continue to threaten the lives of those around him, whether actively or passively, intentionally or subconsciously, he would continue to endanger the world... The threat that was the Mage of Flowers would endure. As her surroundings faded around her, all that was left was the image of his smug, smiling face seared into her eyes.

"Mer... lin...? No... You're not my... Merlin..."

Only two sounds permeated the Heart of the Titan after the battle's end: the soft-pitter patter of the rain coming from the hurricane, which seemed to have abated somewhat in the aftermath. The second was the rhythmic pulsations of the grotesque heart, pump after pump without failure. Artoria's blood diluted from the rain, seeping into the tainted ground. All seemed tranquil. Until....

Thump

Suddenly the heart expanded, pumping outwardly into a massive size before quick contracting. Blood burst from the purple veins that spread around it, flooding the immediate vicinity in a bright red iron-scented fluid. Blood splattered on Merlin's robes and face which would cause the seeds embedded in his body to instantly react. The Incubus's flesh would twist and contort where the seeds were buried, the blood from the Titan's Heart seeping into his flesh and they ravenously consumed its essence. While the process would be eerie, if not outright disgusting and horrifying to behold, there would be little to no pain involved. As if his body had adjusted to the growing seeds inside, now feasting on the blood. His skin would bounce up and down until finally the seeds burst outward of his flesh, his own blood bursting back while the seeds hovered in the air for a moment. They'd soon dart at the Heart of the Titan, leaving Merlin's body and embedding themselves in the Heart.

And then nothing. The heart would contract again, pulling into itself before the red and purple complexion of its flesh and blood would twist and transform into a dark green and black. The trees that formed an interwoven cage around it were suddenly blasted backwards and wilted. And then again...

THUMP

The Heart expanded again, but this time launching from it a series of tendrils that would wrap around Merlin's legs and arms, grabbing onto him and drawing him inside it, his body sinking into the flesh of the heart itself. He would reappear soon after...but this time somewhere else.
