Firstly I'd like to say this is not an anti healthy food thread though I'm sure some will interpret it that way, it's more a reminder to not just take information at face value simply because it is presented as advice.
Secondly, idk why this popped into my head but I suddenly remembered a big thing that went around a few months back about how bad soda is for your body because when you dump it on a corroded battery the acid in soda eats away the corrosion.
People went with that idea and lost their marbles because they simply didn't understand the acid in soda responsible for that was citric acid. You know what else has citric acid, every citrus fruit ever, plus citric acid is a big-pushed product in the all natural home cleaning products market.
So people started freaking out and threatening to boycott soda because they were drinking an acid that could dissolve corrosion on a battery(despite that being a marketable trait of the acid) thinking it would harm them ignoring one big detail, our stomach is lined with acid, and a much more potent acid than citric. If you sit and think about it, it's clear citric acid can't eat through the aluminum can it's in but if a small piece of aluminum was eaten it would be digested by stomach acids.
Now again I feel I need to clarify, I'm not saying soda is good for you but it's not some toxic liquid you should be afraid of because it contains citric acid. It reminds me of a class my college had that had students go and ask for signatures banning this certain compound and they gave all kind of examples of how bad it was and what harm it could do and it turned out it was H2O the whole time.
