As the two opponents come out, Yamato creates a thick forest ranging short range around himself and Roy, he then claps his hands together whilst focusing more chakra in the forest to make it explode, killing the two. Some believe that Yamato did this because he was sick and tired of fighting the same people, others say he did it because he loved Roy and he wanted to be with him forever, and knowing that Roy wasn't interested, this was the only way the two could be together.
The two, linked by death, die. Because, when you die, it means you're dead.
