Hey there, Narutobase, JD here! So I have thought about this quite a lot and would like to see what all of you think about this. I believe Sasuke may still have a larger role than simply defeating Madara and (possibly) becoming Hokage. Obito stated on multiple occasions that he had plans for Sasuke but I don't believe that they have been realized yet.

[[Last panel]] Why was having Sasuke so important? I highly doubt that Obito needed help bringing down Killer Bee. So why did he need him? He even says that it's the MOST IMPORTANT THING. Why? What did he use Sasuke for? I don't recall.

[[Top left panel]] "Naruto is merely a pawn to be used to stimulate Sasuke." Again, what does he mean by this? I don't think anything further ever came from it but it gives me such an eerie feeling... Why is he trying to "stimulate" Sasuke? To make him stronger? What purpose would he have for that? At this point in the manga, Obito had no use for Sasuke since he was trying to become the Juubi's Jinchuuriki. It doesn't seem like he was after Sasuke's eyes either, so why did he say this? I'm not sure that there is really a concrete answer to my questions, but even theoretical answers are welcomed.

PS - This is my first real thread so try not to be too harsh! I really have not seen this get discussed on the base though!

Obito was gonna use Sasuke to replace Nagato. In otherwords, he probably was going to implant Nagato's eyes into Sasuke's or somehow get sasuke to awaken them like Madara, and then have Sasuke revive Madara. But that plan didnt work, since Nagato betrayed them, and Sasuke wasnt being compliant.

its possible he wanted Sasuke to be like the Eldest son *eyes* or something.

im not sure myself but it could mean that he thought naruto wouldn't be as strong as he was and that naruto's whole purpose was to fight and be distracted by sasuke

This answer makes a lot of sense actually! But I don't think he would plan all that out since Obito planned to betray Madara in the first place. Obito did not plan to fully revive Madara because he wanted to become Juubi-Jin himself. It was only because of Black Zetsu that Madara actually got revived.

Thanks bro! I picked this out when re-reading old chapters and recalled that he said something along those lines on multiple occasions.

Why would he need Sasuke to summon the Mazo when he could just do it himself though?

As many others have said, Obito's original plan was to sync Sasuke with Gedo Mazo (Chapter 453), but honestly I don't really think that aspect is too relevant any more. I'm assuming Sasuke obtaining the Rinnegan was part of that plan as well, though I could not say for certain.

Could you possibly post scans? I feel like I remember that, but I don't think it really makes much sense in the grand scheme of things.. What does Sasuke have to do with the Gedo Mazo? I could understand that maybe Obito wanted to stimulate Sasuke so that he would awaken the Rinnegan and be able to summon the Gedo, but why would he need Sasuke to do so when he could already do it himself? Mind you in the second scan I provided, Obito had already proved that he was able to summon the Gedo Mazo. So why would he want Sasuke to do it?
