So we all know the ninja ranks; genin, chunnin, jounin, anbu black ops, and then kage.
So how come over the whole series, the majority of the shinobi deaths have been the anbu black ops? It seems like every time there is an attack on the village there's always a pile of dead anbu left behind.
If they're so good why do they always die? haha I'm just wondering:shrug:

There's just too many of 'em. Lolz, it's 'coz the guys who attack are stronger than the Anbu. Pain, Tobi, Bijuu and more yo! But we did get to see some awesome Anbu action during the Pain invasion arc

Its been explained early in Naruto that ANBU have short life span... Then what do you expect?

Yea pretty much there main duty is to protect the leaf. So thats why they always die, I don't think eveybody who's an anbu is that strong.

the others mostly try to keep villagers out of harms way... well at least the chuunin and genin. Jounins usually fight as well... but withdraw from battle after a while I guess :shrug:

Anbu were said to be the best of the best, but I think that was only said because the best of the best were once Anbu. Such as Kakashi, Itachi, and Shisui.

It's hard to compare to those three.

Once Tsunade dies so does the Sannin moniker.

Assassination, Spying, Surveillance, and Intelligence Gathering are the Anbu's main task.

Taking on exceptional shinobi is also one of their task, that's why they have a bingo book of wanted and powerful Missing Nin.

Anbu are not frontline fighters unless the Hokage says otherwise.

Jonin and Chunin are the real frontliners.
