Hatake Kakashi / Nohara Rin

Can somebody please explain to me why Kakashi kills Rin? I haven't read much of the latest manga so I don't know.

she was kidnapped and had the 3 tails put in her, plan was for her to goto to hidden leaf village and let the beast out. But during the mission to retrieve her she jumps infront of kakashi's lightning blade to save the village
