You mean like him creating a dome around the village or something? He probably could do something like that when you consider the Buddha... I guess the Mokuton would be able to protect the people but it'd probably be destroyed in the process. I imagine there'd be some casualties as well but I'm really not sure.

Yes that. I was thinking about the Gara' s fight with Deidera and how he stopped his attacked from hitting the village

Well then maybe. Going back to Yamato, Yamato was able to produce a dome like that and he did it against Sasuke. Granted, Yamato's Mokuton seems to be weaker than Hashirama's (obviously) and Sasuke managed to break out with brute force. Perhaps Hashirama could apply a similar technique against Chou Shinra Tensei to protect the village.

After all, his Mokuton did manage to catch a TBB, something we've seen explode on impact (sometimes) at a large radius. Granted, no TBB has the same impact radius that Pain's Shinra Tensei did (not to my knowledge anyway) but depending on how Hashirama sets up his Mokuton to defend, he could perhaps cushion the force of Shinra Tensei with some really dense Mokuton. That's how I could see him defending the village but it seems like it would take a while to form a Mokuton dome like that.
