It was said White Zestu's were created using Hashirama's DNA but now we know white Zestu's existed before Hashirama.

Hashirama's DNA was a catalyst for creating the White Zetsu clones. I think it is because of the Senjutsu connection.

Yeah, Madara used the Rinnegan and it was something to do with Hashi's DNA probably some Ashura chakra, maybe a bit of Mokuton and of course the Gedo Mazo. I don't think Madara actually knew that the Mugen Tsukuyomi turned people into White Zetsu, he seemed 100% convinced that the people were sustained and survived by the Shinju and not turned into White Zetsu.

The similarity between all those things is "wood".

Hashirama is one of a kind, the only person to use Mokuton originally. Not sure why though, is it something to do with Ashura? But it doesn't seem like it. I think there must be some more secrets on Hashirama's body that we don't know yet.

The Gedo Mazo is also needed to activate Mugen Tsukuyomi,which Kaguya activated previously according to Zetsu. The chakra and Shell of Juubi reacted to Hashirama's cells (To create clones at a rapid rate), because its familiar to it.

P.S.Considering Madara did not have prior knowledge about White zetsus, he saw only the possibility to create an army with it and boost his life :/​
