Hey, I'm back with another one. I know I promised it'd be the last but it was getting a bit too much for my liking(and laziness xd) Enjoy. The next one will DEFINITELY be the last.
The monstrous humanoid shattered its restraints instantly and gave a thunderous roar. Several small eyes opened on the blindfold which covered where normal eyes would have been were this an actual human. These new eyes darted in every direction before they settled on Hashirama, who appeared an insignificant speck of dust to this colossal beast.
The Senju was intrigued by this new foe. He keenly noted that, unlike the previous monsters Pain had called forth, this one had no piercings on any part of its body. Hashirama was trying to make sense of this when the Gedo Mazo lifted its great leg and brought it down upon the first Hokage, attempting to trample him underfoot. A quick hand seal was weaved, invoking a large human like hand made of wood, which grabbed the leg of the Gedo Mazo and threw it off balance.
As the great stone statue staggered back, Hashirama formed another hand seal. “Let’s see this go up against my Dragon.” As if in response to Hashirama’s words, a giant serpentine dragon of immense length and a completely wooden composition sprang forth from beneath the earth, quickly ensnaring Pain’s living humanoid sculpture with its body. The Gedo Mazo tried to wrench itself free but all efforts proved futile, while Hashirama’s dragon began to siphon off some of the statue’s chakra and grew even larger, tightening its hold.
Hashirama had barely climbed up to the living statue’s knees when the Preta path-who was on the Gedo Mazo’s head-leaped off and landed on Hashirama’s binding dragon. The bright orb of Pain’s absorption technique glowed round the bulky puppet as he swallowed up the massive dragon in a few moments, thus freeing Gedo Mazo from its hold. The Gedo Mazo roared with fury and-going by the murderous gleam in its multiple eyes as it stared at Hashirama, the Senju who had climbed up to his waist-it was abundantly clear who would be receiving the full outpour of his anger.
Hashirama scowled deeply as he was ruthlessly flung off the statue. He landed ungracefully with a loud thud and he was nearly certain he heard the crunching of bone over his rather embarrassing crash; a possible broken rib? He rushed to his feet, only then feeling the stab of pain at both his sides; definitely more than one broken rib. Thankful for his renowned skill in medical ninjutsu, he activated his no-hand-seal-required medical technique, instantly providing healing to his wounds-as he bounded towards Pain’s massive humanoid, whose back was cackling and flashing with something akin to lightning, as the monster charged Hashirama as well.
“Senpo: Myojimon!” the Senju roared after preparing the technique. Several large gates rained down on the a
approaching humanoid, who evaded them expertly without losing any momentum, closing the distance between itself and its Senju opponent. The lightning which chirped ferociously behind the statue made Hashirama uneasy but he keep charging forward all the same; the famously carefree Senju had already crafted the makings of a plan.
He weaved a hand seal, calling forth a wooden humanoid of size great enough to match the Gedo Mazo, from beneath him. Rising to a much higher altitude on the head of his own monster, Hashirama drew level with the three Paths on top of the living statue’s head. The stone and wooden creatures clashed with the savagery of lions; Hashirama’s beast decking Pain;s summoning across the jaw with a wooden fist, the statue then grabbing its opponents torso and retaliating with several powerful lightning blasts from his back. The three Paths teetered atop the Gedo Mazo due to the impact of the encounter, but Hashirama had already leapt off his Wooden Golem and the Senju was soaring through the sky, the wind sweeping violently through his air and rattling his already battered armor, his trademark grin creased across his gaunt face.
The three Pains watched as Hashirama landed from the sky, falling onto the surface of the Mazo’s head. Close quarters with a ninja of his caliber was suicidal, even with shared eyesight and perfect synchrony of attack and defense, especially considering that Deva’s life was in danger and there would be no extra pair of eyes supplementing their vision from the sidelines. This was why all the Paths were hurling a number of their distinct black spikes at the approaching Senju; perhaps if one ran him through, he would already be incapacitated before he got within striking distance.
Hashirama easily deflected the projectiles with a kunai and his hands locked in the tiger seal at the exact moment his feet landed on the statue’s head. “Genjutsu: Bringer of Darkness Technique!” Utter abysmal darkness immediately began to veil the surroundings, the blackness swallowing up everything in sight. This time, there was no Animal Path to summon something which would provide linked eyesight for Pain’s puppets, allowing them to bypass the genjutsu. The leader of Akatsuki was truly blind here, which was why Hashirama met no resistance as he plunged a kunai into the chest of the Preta path. He also found snapping the neck of the Human path far from difficult; the puppet of Pain groped helplessly in the darkness before the Senju delivered instant death.
However, the Deva Path had already leaped off the statue even before the illusion had been cast, and was now-to Hashirama‘s utter disdain-floating in mid air, staring, rather glowering menacingly, at the Senju, his Akatsuki cloak billowing madly about him. The fact that Pain’s key player was defying gravity at that moment could only mean that his gravitational powers had finally returned.
Only now did the First Hokage realized that Pain had sacrificed the other two Paths in order to keep Deva alive, long enough for his powers to return and turn the tide of the battle on favor of the enigmatic wielder of the Rinnegan. Hashirama might have spouted one of his carefree jokes with his trademark cavalier attitude which he usually kept even in the face of the most grim circumstances, in fact those thin lips were already pursed to speak something that would have undoubtedly infuriated Pain to no end, but the Deva Path cried, “ SHINRA TENSEI!”
The blast wasn’t all that debilitating. Hashirama was rudely flung off Pain’s statue but he managed to extend a long vine from the palm of his hand, which allowed him to latch onto his Wooden Golem, the giant humanoid who was still doing battle with Pain’s Gedo Mazo. Hashirama, now balanced on the head of his creation kept his gaze fixed to the Deva Path, who had floated and landed on the head of his statue. The singular question on Hashirama’s mind was why had the Deva path not blown him and his Golem away, yet anyway.
The Deva Path was smiling. It was a wide sinister grin which perturbed Hashirama more than anything he had faced so far. The main Path of Pain stood in a relaxed pose on top of the living sculpture he had summoned, gray ringed eyes meeting Hashirama’s beetle black ones, a glint of murder clearly visible even in spite of the distance between them. Hashirama’s Golem lifted its fist towards Gedo Mazo’s chin, attempting to deliver an uppercut…
…only for said arm to freeze when its knuckles were just inches from the opponent’s jaw.
Hashirama lifted an eyebrow in utter shock at this, but then understanding dawned on him; Pain had utilized his somewhat telekinetic power to resist the his Golem’s movements, that explained why the cocky grin that had spread even wider across Deva’s face. In that same moment, the Gedo Mazo buried his own fist into the face of Hashirama’s Golem. He did this again. And again. And again. It was a miracle Hashirama didn’t fall off his continually assaulted creation. Pain’s stone summoning was far from finished; he then grabbed his opponent at the torso and with a great heave, lifted the colossal wooden construct off the ground. The Deva Path lifted his palm towards the raised Golem.
“SHINRA TENSEI!”
The wooden Golem soared into the air, and landed with a thunderous crash quite far from the Gedo Mazo. The humanoid was in pieces, the force of the invisible blast combined with the impact of the collapse leaving the Golem in ruins. Hashirama remained atop the battered wooden construct, looking down on it pitifully. “Aw, you poor thing.” The First Hokage then lifted his eyes, looking off into the distance where the Gedo Mazo stood completely still, the enormous grotesque sculp-
“WHAT?!” Hashirama blurted before he could stop himself, when he saw the statue dispel in a great cloud of smoke, vanishing abruptly before his eyes. Was Pain underestimating him? Did the self-acclaimed god feel no need for help of any sort? Hashirama bounded off towards the Deva Path, possibly to complain to him about this.
It wasn’t very long before he closed the distance between himself and the Deva Path, having propelled himself forward in long swift furious strides. The orange haired Rinnegan wielder, now absent from his lofty perch atop his stone statue, was standing on the barren ground, his features set in a relaxed pose. The look in his eye was dull and apathetic; an utterly empty gaze but his lips were quirked into a small smile.
Hashirama, for fear of the damage he stood to receive from a Shinra Tensei at close range, opted to keep a good distance between himself and this dangerous foe. They were about thirty meters apart. “You got rid of your stone pet? Afraid I’d have broken it?” teased Hashirama, a wide smile creased on his face.
“Actually, I was afraid I’d hurt it.”
“Whatever do you mean?”
Deva Path grinned, the cloaked hands at his sides lifting abruptly and clapping at his chest. It looked like a hand seal and so Hashirama’s braced himself for whatever would follow. Nothing came. Perhaps Pain failed to activate his technique? No that was stupid, Hashirama thought.
“It was quite lucky I was in range” said the Path of Pain. His hands separated, revealing a tiny glowing ball which was suspended between his palms. The Deva Path took it in his hands and flung it towards the sky, where it froze and hung amidst the clouds.
“You understand what it means, right?” asked Pain. The earth began to rumble and quake like it had never before since the battle began. First, dust and pebbles flew swiftly skywards and joined with Pain’s sphere, all in an instant. Next, all of Hashirama’s Mokuton began to ascend, even the colossal remains of his Golem were lifted off the ground and hurried to combine with the black sphere which hung ominously in the sky. Then, even the ground beneath Hashirama sectioned off from the earth and was quickly rising to meet the sphere-which was growing steadily larger as everything was pulled upwards and compressed into it at every side; creating a make shift heavenly body with the sphere at its core.
Hashirama’s gaze darted in every direction as he was helplessly conveyed skywards. Massive chunks of the earth had been scooped up by the invisible attractive force of that tiny sphere. The burgundy walls of the Four Red Suns Battle Encampment had faded away: probably due to his clones being pulled out of the square formation by Pain’s technique. Hashirama dispelled said clones and the information he received from them clearly confirmed his theory. He sighed.
“Hashirama, I know you sensed my real self. I’m rather impressed.” Pain spoke with a dull apathetic tone. He was literally the only thing in sight that was on the ground, completely immune to the immense pull of his own technique.
“You’re quite confident in this technique of yours, if you’re speaking freely of your secrets.” said Hashirama as he was slowly being conveyed skywards to his imminent doom. “Nobody ever told you not to underestimate your opponents?”
“You already had some idea, did you not? Oh, and by the way, I think it’s you who underestimates your enemy. The Chibaku Tensei is the technique which carved the moon into existence.”
“That old wives’ tale about a god-like Sage?” scoffed Hashirama.
“Hmph, just like the one about one god-like Hashirama Senju.” replied Pain with a gentle smile.
Hashirama chuckled, still being drawn in by the Chibaku Tensei. “Well, I can’t argue with that. And I won’t blame you for believing in fairy tales when you see my next move.”
