The reason why he isn't going to the battlefield is to remove some of the evil within Sasuke.Even if Sasuke is still evil Hashi would rather leave knowing he told the Uchiha what he needed to know.

Hashirama only broke the restraints. Hasn't been proven he completely broke it like Madara did.

Remember Tobirama said that he was going to stop Sasuke from detroying the village and as soon as he powered up Orochimaru restrained him and he was unable to move. Hashirama then stated that Tobirama have been to lax and had gotten rusty and then proceeded to break the Edo himself as he was too strong to be restrained.

Even with this I am not completely sure if he has fully broken the Edo Jutsu or wether he is merely overpowering Orochimaru's attempt at restraining his movements, much like a child attempting to keep his father from leaving him by pulling at his coat sleeves.

Official translation says he hasn't broke out of Orochimaru's restraint, BUT, he could if he wishes. He hasn't yet though.

Hes not free, he just broke free of oro's restrain so he can move as he wishes.
Oro can still end the jutsu and make him disappear, but that wouldn't help sasuke much so he aint gonna do that.

Itachi wasn't free either he also just broke the restrain, or cancelled the edo tensei orders with the genjutsu, he still "died" when the jutsu ended.

Madara broke free.
