There have been multiple threads created since the release of the latest chapter; detailing how many fans find Hashirama to be "naive", however I disagree. While his jovial & care-free personality may be misleading, Hashirama has proven extremely wise & for the most part like his brother; thorough in his actions & thought process, which all lead to accomplishing his goal: breaking the chain of hatred & achieving peace. Many seem to write off his consistent sparing of Madara as "softness" despite the facts that he acknowledged that Madara's death would only hinder his plans for peace that heavily relied on an alliance with the Uchiha; which Madara's death would all but rule out, something Hashirama viewed as more important than his own life & that when Madara indeed proved beyond saving; Hashirama showed the resolve to protect the village at any cost. Also, Hashirama's decision to appoint Madara as Hokage is often judged similarly; viewed as Hashirama carelessly offering a position to his friend , however, at the time there were few candidates more qualified than Madara, who not only was a proven leader of high intelligence/power, but possessed a strong desire to protect those he valued, all key traits shown in Hokages, furthermore Hashirama highlighted it as a chance to not only strengthen relations between the Senju & Uchiha, but to offer a platform in which the Uchiha could be viewed in a different light, which would in turn help alter the public opinion of the Uchiha, further attributing to his goal of long term peace. In the end Hashirama would fall short of his goals, as the bigotry held by key members of the Senju, in particular Tobirama; spurred Madara to defect & set off a chain of events that has led to current events, but that does not mean Hashirama was naive or should be written off as an idealist, as while his ideals could be called sensational, he applied a quite rational plan to achieving it in reality & was nearly successful, furthermore even in his failure he accomplished his dream of creating a settlement that would set the standard for the Shinobi World & his "naive" ideals would be passed on as the Will of Fire that would come to shape nigh every shinobi of the Leaf including future Hokages & Uchiha alike. With that said, in the end was Hashirama a naive idealist or was he simply ahead of his time?

He is naive, but not about his ideals on village and peace.

He is naive, the same way Naruto was about Sauke leaving the village.
Till this day he believes he can convince him to come back.

I agree with most of the thread, well said.He did value his ideals and dreams of peace more than anything,even his own life.99% of shinobis would try to use his insane amount of power to force his ideals into the world through power.

I think I speak for the other kages when I say they all want the least amount of their ninja killed as possible, and for that to happen, you need to have an understanding of each other. Peace is born from this. Hashirama's ideals translates to "no matter who you are, there is always going to be someone who understands you and can support you through your trials, even if it has to be me". Hashirama was trying to tell Madara that even though there was no one else who supports him, there was still he who believes in him. Naruto and Sasuke is a younger generation of this same principle.

Because of this, Hashirama had ideals ahead of his time. Knowing you have many others who have your back with more than just obedience strengthens oneself, and this is why Konoha has the most manpower of any other hidden village.

He is wise but still naive, I can't believe he was really gonna kill himself for Madara. Ifhe would've killed Madara back then there would be no war.

Ifhe would've killed Madara back then there would be no war.

This is unfortunately the mindset of every other warlord we've seen in the Naruto series. We all know what happens when this is carried out -- a survivor pops up, bearing the hate of his experience and sees his revenge to fruition. Hashirama wanted to break this cycle and have everlasting understanding.

My advice to you.

Paragraphs. Spaces.

Ot: He is not naive but judging from the way him and Madara are i can say they are in love.

All jokes aside those two are dating. Sorry Mito.

He is the wisest leader in the Naruto-verse. He saw that having Madara as a Hokage, and him being on his side guiding Madara would've strengthened the TRUST between the clans that was needed. The modern shinobi world is founded on his ideas. The Hokage title and what it represents , his wisdom. His believed in PEACE by LOVE.. not by FORCE..

People who call him naive need to go read biographies of people like Washington,F.D.R, Lincoln ,and many other great leaders.

People wanna call Tobirama, Danzo and etc wise.....well heres the thing.. they were naive enough to make humanity into Black and white. They believed that their actions wouldn't have caused something big later on. They did not think through things.

If you read it from non-baised point of view:

Hashirama = Wise older brother

Tobirama = Hot-headed younger brother.

Great theory and well put being Naive is one thing but he was wise amongst fools..He was trying to break the cycle of hatred in world full blood thirsty clan's that didn't take in regard the lives of kids. His way of thinking should be admired in reality..We live in a world where violence is everywhere and children are dieing for no reason what so ever.He indeed is the God of the shinobi world
