Hashirama knew 8 gates?

Now sorry if this has been posted before but anyway. So in today's chapter we saw how Madara referred to a red steam. I don't know if I misinterpreted but to me that looks as what 8 gates looks like. The fact that madara knows that means that he has fought against someone who can open them and the only person I can think of is Hashirama. That means that in Hashirama's case, 8 gates doesn't kill him because of his strong life force. At least that's how I understood it.

Today's chapter didn't confirm that the appearance of the Eighth Gate is red steam, even Gai himself noted it.

But, seeing as Gai hasn't used it, I think it's just noted down in records or something of the like.

they would not call it the 8th gate of death if it didnt cause automatic death using it.

for crying out loud people thought that using the rinnegan technique to bring back people alive that you can use it multiple times but you cant its only a 1 shot jutsu

since madara knew about red steam he must have seen/fought someone who used the eigth gate which means they already died and were pretty old, but maybe hashi used it but survived due to his strong regeneration abilities

Even with Senju DNA, since we know that there is red steam from using the Eighth Gate, and how the lower gates work, we can only assume that the steam is red when using the eighth because it boils your actual blood away. The seventh gate created a green(or blue depending on what translation you use) steam because it evaporates the sweat away from your body because of the...I guess power? being released. So based on that, eighth has to be red because it boils your blood away. Even a Senju wouldn't be able to survive having all his blood boiled away. I guess that's the reason why it's the gate of death, no way to survive that.

for what reason who the 1st need the 8 gates if the only person that could push him was madara and we how he consistently lost, why would need a jutsu that boosts his ability?

seems like ridiculous overkill in power and that doesn't fit his personality

Why do you first assume Madara gained Intel on 8 gates from hashirama? Its more logical to assume Madara used the jutsu himself rather than hashirama.. even then its most likely just a known technique. Better off waiting for kishi.

The point is that opening the 8 gates is something competely extraordinary, it's not something that you can easily see and thus one can not get easily information about how it is to open the 8th gate unless he has personnal experience. In fact I would say that when Madara fought against Hashirama at VotE, not even him could use it because it doesn't the key element you need to use it is an increadibly powerful body. Also, the hypothesis that madara knew only of the colour as a logically expected side effect from opening the 8th gate I think it's a bit far-fetched.
