In an actual fight Gai doesn't automatically have 8th gate on..... Its a state that he has to get into. And before he can get into it, Hashirama can easily hide and avoid the 8th gate.. or kill Gai or negate his things..

-sigh-, atleast use a correct gif ....... the gif you showed had a timeskip between when he starts breathing, and when hes already in one of the above gates. So yea.
