It was meant to surpress the Kyuubi's chakra by binding it. Hashirama had all the bijuus by surpressing their chakra, just like Yamato surpressed the 4 tails and Kisame (almost), so obviously Hashirama is able to surpress the Kyuubi's chakra (Naruto) and susanoo's chakra which means it is over. Naruto doesn't have a shit on Madara.. seriously, however that think this are stupid and needs to go off.
