Their life stories are not even similar at all. The older brother in the beginning was stronger than the weaker, younger brother who believed in love in peace. If Madara represented power and might, then Hashirama should've started out weak and as an underdog like Naruto. But from the flashbacks, we clearly see Hashirama was SUPERIOR to Madara at ALL times.

Heck, we could say Hiruzen is the reincarnate of the younger brother according to what you think. Hiruzen is as cooperate as it gets.
