When he and madara were kids he came up with a jutsu called Secret taijutsu super katon genjutsu cutting big shuriken. Notice that the jutsu has super katon in the name meaning that he can use the fire element.

Dude senju clan was known for their thaosand of jutsu. So theres no way hashirama didnt know any of it. Not to mentioned naruto wikia said he mastered it.

He said 'let's master it together', meaning he needed Madara in order for it to work. Madara has displayed Katon, meaning he would be the one to execute it in the plan most likely. While the Genjutsu area falls for Hashirama's Kokuangyo, which he may have had at young age.​

Not necessarily. The same nature doesn't automatically cancel each other out, the stronger of the two overtakes the weaker. See Itachi vs Sasuke. Madara undoubtedly had stronger Katon than Hashirama, Katon being the Uchiha speciality. Assuming he does have it.
