Hashirama fighting Perfect Susanoo

Since Hashirama and Madara fought each other multiple times in the past, how was he able to stop Madara's Perfect Susanoo? Was it because of his wood dragon or another wood style jutsu?

Wood dragon sucks chakra doesn't it? Susano'o is made purely of chakra so it could be that.

Some people think that PS came with the Rinnegan meaning from Hashi's DNA. So probably he never fought PS.
