Hashirama died when he fought his last battle with madara well that's my opinion because why would he think madara was dead if he wouldnt have the body or anything where would it have disappeared maybe madara was knocked out unconscious and then hashirama fainted too leading to his death and when hashirama was unconscious/dead madara must have escaped. So i would say hashirama died thinking madara died with him

It's the only real logical outcome, if Madara couldn't kill him, who could?

The only other logical explanations are either another ultra-powered Shinobi, a large group of Tobirama-level shinobi or illness..
