nope, the rasengan is generated from ones self, so technically thats a bijusengan

I'm pretty sure he learned by trying to imitate what was happening during a bijuu dama. Not by hearing about Hashirama catching one. Rasengan has to do with rotating chakra which doesn't seem to be what Hashirama was doing.
