Anyone remember Chiriku of the Fire Temple? :shrug: I saw the page in the latest manga showing Hashirama's jutsu which he used in some sort of Sage Mode and I just remembered how it looked similar to a jutsu of a ninsho(ninja monk) of the Fire Village; Chiriku, one of the twelve guardian ninja.

Unfortunately, the jutsu performed by Chiriku is not shown in the manga but only in the anime. You should still be able to see the similarities anyways.
My theory is like Chiriku, Hashirama was also sometime in his life a ninja monk of the Fire Temple. Being a ninja monk of the Fire Temple would've given him access to "Senzoku no Sai" which is a special kind of chakra unique to the ninja monks of the Fire Temple. Nevertheless, there is also a slight difference between the two jutsu's since Hashirama's requires Sage Mode but Chiriku's doesn't. It states that the size and power of the spirit created by the jutsu is dependent upon the skill of the user. Chiriku also knew the
