Nagato was too inexperienced but a good fighter and rinnegan user. though Hashirama, don't forget, was really close to the SO6P just like Madara. They are both his ancestors. I mean the Wood style he has is of a great power and can tame beasts. wood coming out of everywhere spamming and attacking other paths is amazingly strong and a fast technique. even if tensei is used, wood can still come out of nowhere in no time. plus hashirama had a lot of fighting experience and a clear mind, was calm, and concentrated judging from his looks xD and please don't bring up yamato please. he's a loser compared to what we've seen from hashirama.
Look at the size of one of his jutsus. Hashirama is like a tank.

yes you might be right. nagato has tremendous power and I would say they'd have a tough fight and we won;t really know who wins. But I'm just saying that from appearance of their jutsu Hashirama's wood style seems to be overhelming, fast, and piercing through and from the ground towards the target. nagato's gravity and path powers are more... well distributed for different occasions. since wood is not in chakra form, one of pains would be take out easily. hashirama would protect from tensei one, then pierce him and bury him somewhere. he could also tame the summoning beasts.
I mean, wood style is so powerful, fast and amazingly stunning u know haha
and i think i'm gonna soon become a fan of first Senju in my life xD

Nagato would win without a doubt.

Hashirama has nO answer for Gedo Mazo, Shinra Tensei, or Chibaku Tensei.
He does have an answer for all of them.
Gedo Mazo, he just can't get caught which will be easy since he has all the forest and wooden stuff coming out of everywhere that he can use without any seals to protect himself, pierce attack or seal. Wood is very strong when properly used, shaped, bent and turned the right way.
Shinra Tensei (or Almighty Push), wooden roots deep underground and a shield strongly supported by other wooden elements. Soon after, that just like Sabaku no Gaara, move to offense with piercing and binding wood, then kill an bury fast.
Chibaku Tensei- once again, deep roots and a strong big shield with support reaching far from the Chibaku reach . Also before it gains gravity with wooden support he can stand his ground and kill the dude and bury him and then deal with moon like mentioned above. Besides Nagato can't really create a moon lol he's not so6p. Just a ball with strong gravity but hashiramas wood style has deep roots in sages past
