His silliness is a part of who he is--and he's never been all too bright.

He has matured, becoming a more responsible, dependable and hard-working person. Something that could not be said at the beginning of the series. But his TRUE talent has never been intellect, but cleverness, thinking of things that no one else would see coming, and his will/determination--ESPECIALLY towards his promises and loyalties.

Naruto is ten-times the person he was since the start of the franchise, make NO mistake.

He actually has matured he just has a goofyish slowish personality. He's smart in certain aspects like battle situations and he has learned a lot that has helped him grow. I you think he hasn't matured since part 1 than your reading comprehension is sh*t.

He's matured a lot. His intelligence, analytical skills, etc have increased manifold. He's the same goofy boy, but he has endured a lot of shit in his life. Hope Kishi keeps Naruto's goofyness at a minimum now, because it's a frickin' war and he's against a Juubi Jin.

what did you understood when sage started talking kid? just asking,give me your answer and I'll see. Btw,I'm pretty sure that most of the kids here,17 or below or maybe some even 24 or below,didn't understood the sage until the moment he changed his tone after which naruto started to understand him. And I think in anime,it may even be old language different from todays one as sage did mention learning new language and culture of different era,not to mention it looked more like naruto didn't understood his language rather than tone.
