Naruto might of been a bigger brat than boruto when growing up having no respect even for adults and authority figures

But Narutos super spoken now and he's constantly helping people from a day to day like walking old ladies across the street

Sasukes switched his ideals but as a core as a person sasukes stayed the same

Sasuke has had the most genuine growth. Naruto matured but as a person he hasn't changed, and for some people (like him and ichigo) it is a redeeming quality.

Naruto had no parents or any loving people to look out for him before Iruka, so him being a brat is justified.
But Boruto has loving parents, a sister, grandparents, etc.. No excuse for being a brat. Just spoiled. He should move in with the Nara family for a couple of weeks and be slapped around by Temari.

Sasuke's growth essentially consisted of him gradually becoming more and more of a psychopath for almost the entire series. Only After he talked with Itachi when he was reanimated did Sasuke start to change his ideals, and even then he was still only less of a psychopath. After his Final fight with Naruto, Sasuke Miraculously got talk-no-jutsu'd and turned good. He essentially ended up being a very similar version of his old self, but more mature.

Naruto stayed the same in terms of his willingness to never give up and protect his friends, but matured much more drastically. By the time he is Hokage, he has become extremely dependable and level-headed. He acts in a very dignified way, and shows a profound bond with the village as his family being their leader and protector.

in the end, I think Naruto grew more as a person than Sasuke. Sasuke more or less went in a circle and ended up back where he started, which is fine too.

They both had the most development. One could argue Sasuke had the most because he was a bad guy turned good but for real why is it even a competition. They both had the most screen time.

Naruto doesn't grow or change in the aspect of strength or mentality. His hand has been held throughout the entire series. He's less childish but still hasn't been shaped by the world around him. In comparison to Sasuke he's hardly grown.

Really, all Naruto does it find a reason to be Hokage, supported by others & Sasuke bounces between sides, manipulated by others for 90% of the series.

Now, a journey of actual character development and gradual human growth. In GIF form:

"What a drag." Immature Shikamaru prefers luxury over responsibility. Emulates his father, women are a hassle. Smart enough to judge Kid Naruto for himself, in a village that otherwise hates him.

The responsibility of a leader. An adult hit of reality as he got his closest friends almost killed.

Losing a master. Hits harder, unlike Naruto- he was helpless as he watched his master be killed.

Repressed grief. Learning a far more mature take on revenge, a recurring theme in Shippuden.

Shikamaru challenges Naruto's definition of the Will of Fire. Trusting in Naruto, he can finally let go of Asuma and subscribes to Naruto's optimistic worldview. He also helps Naruto in Jiraiya's death.

Relationship with his team and mature growth put to the test as he is forced to rebury Asuma. Dynamic with Chouji is particularly awesome and well written by Kishi.

Loses his father to the 10 Tails but immediately knows he must step up & take his place.

Now an Alliance Higher-Up, Shika is Hokage's right hand man & knows he must do darker missions to create a perfect world to lead Naruto into the Hokage chair. Acts as a big brother to him.

Though he used to groan at the idea of jobs, kids and women- he now embraces them all and finds that the payoff to his hard work is worth it. Is a proud father and LOVES his family, something Kid Shikamaru would've actively avoided.

Shikamaru's story is real, detailed human development. No room for shonen stereotypes here.

Boruto's reason for being a brat is because he wants his father. Him having friends and siblings doesn't change the fact that he wants his dad back.

Shikadai doesn't have to deal with this either so I'm not sure how living with Temari would change that.
