Metalcore or hardcore metal is more breakdown ish and mosh style. Metal is more old school. It the classic brutality. Metalcore is more today.

(i'm into Punk rock and Melodic death metal) ...but if i had to chose between Hardcore and metal music..i'd go with Metal!!!

Well.Everything that had to do with metalcore etc. started from heavy metal.

Heavy metal is not such an old music genre!There a bunch of new heavy metal bands with their own unique sound!(Black Label Society,and yeah,they are consider to be "new")

Heavy Metal has a lot of subgenres too.Thrash,Black,Death,Crossover,Doom etc etc.
My favorite genre though is Black (Burzum etc.),Doom,Stoner/Psychedelic Doom and thrash.

And no.I don't prefer hardcore/metalcore.
