Basic objective is to throw color at others till they can not be recognized while avoiding being colored yourself.... as far as I know no one has ever won in the last few thousand years.......

Also in some areas women are allowed to beat up men with sticks (men can carry shield though) . . . . so its a victory for them.

WoW... ours only about 14-15 feet... then again ours is a small neighborhood.

No but we get a lot of food of many varieties. ^^

It's basically a new year celebration in some northern states- as it is the first day of new Hindu calendar year according to Vikram Era (an Indian calender) . The holika Dahan or the bon fire on the eve of the colour festival represents the changing of the season and coming of the new year.

( Note: Not all states consider Chaitra the first month though Holi is now celebrated in many places just because we get to eat a lot and play a lot. )

I'm Muslim and don't celebrate it but always wanted to play it... From where I stay, the Hindus celebrate it but modestly. Like, they play it within families and dear reminds but the neighborhood remain very calm Wished it was like in India.

dont forget getting covered in so much color that it turns into some purple black and the only only part of your body that is white is the eyes and teeth :|
it takes me acouple of days to get the color out
