"You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you mad."

"Universal happiness keeps the wheels steadily turning, truth and beauty can't."

- Aldous Huxley

"When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life."

- John Lennon

After watching this vid, I'm curious on other people's views on this matter, what does it mean for you to live well, what does it mean for you to be happy?

What makes you happy, pursuiment of materialistic goals or achievement of certain smaller goals that go far beyond simply the amassment of material wealth or social status?

OT: It may not work for everyone, but this is roughly the philosophy that I have adopted. I guess it depends on your personality?

Firstly, figure out where you want to be in life. What you want. Material Wealth? A large family? A hole in the ground containing all the porn you could ever want? Perhaps it's a specific career.

Whatever it is, work out how to get there, then figure out how to conduct yourself so that all things are working as well as they can because of what you're doing right now. Essentially, do your best. Your real best. And think about your goal. And think about how what you're doing, right now, in the moment, is helping you achieve your goal.

You also need to be honest with yourself. Take a critical look at yourself, and you will see your weaknesses.
and you are going to be tempted to use your weaknesses and situation as an excuse to not do things in life.
And it is going to be hard to tell when you can't do something because you are unable to, and when it would
just be convenient to use these as an excuse for not doing anything.

And finally, there are things that you're doing that you just have to stop doing.
You have to understand that certain actions have definite effects.
When these effects block the path to the goal, the action causing the effect must end.
A necessary sacrifice. A transformation.
"If that is what you want, then you can't also have this".

'Course, this is stupidly hard to do. It also doesn't work if your goal is not really worth it to you.

People spend so much time thinking they should be thinking/feeling/living a certain way that they ruin the moment that they are in. Happiness is a temporary state, like any other emotion. It comes and goes, and preoccupying oneself with trying to by happy all the time is exhausting and paradoxically depressing. Learning to take some time to stop and enjoy what you have, instead of focusing on what you don't have is a good step toward increasing happiness without forcing it. Personally my happiest moments are just sitting drinking a pot of tea, cooking, or watching television with my family. There was a time when I thought I needed to do something "epic" to be happy, but in hindsight that was just because I wasn't happy.

People don't know what makes them happy...and they need to just shut up.

These people are "seemingly" happy, as long as they get their own way. It's completely one-sided.

And those people who AREN'T happy that somehow have this biased leaning towards "happiness"...so out of harmony with themselves, living their lives trying to reach the "stars".

"Happiness"...is subjective anyways.

And that video is delusional and absurd. I could never have "ideals" that contraries who I am as a person, so self-contradictory. That's precisely what a "wannabe" is...

People are wannabes, not "happy"...lmao.

Tbh I'm not happy right now, happiness for me would mean to achieve some of my goals I have, but these last years have gone by like nothing has happened, like I'm just bashing my head against a wall and getting fat or something.
I am making some progress towards my goals though.
So maybe in the future I can be happy.

The thing about approaching a set goal in the right way is that the pursuit it self helps you out.
Also, there are people who do know what makes people happy. It's just that it's not one universal set of circumstances
for each person. And no, they don't need to shut up. They need to talk louder.

Happiness is what we need to live. It's in our DNA, even Keanu Reeves deep inside wants to be happy as much as he denies it, he's not a robot. What is different for people is the concept of happiness, one of the messages that the video has shown to us. For some people, being happy is to have a nice car, a nice motorcycle... Despite the fact that there is no "life" in these materials goods. For other people, being happy is to spend their money traveling, enjoying life. Every single person has a particular way to be happy.

I prefer to spend my money traveling than buying stuff, we all gonna die in the end, we can't bring our properties with us. We must enjoy life because time flies. I'm not saying I'm a hippie or something, I even like cars.
