Powers and Abilities: Super strength, speed, durability, as a shaman he can see and communicate with spirits and use them to aid him in battle, Furyoku (with his Furyoku Hao gains the ability of fire manipulation through converting his Furyoku into fire as long as he's using the Spirit of Fire), the ability to change the Spirit of Fire into five different elements through the doctrine of the five phases (fire, water, wood, metal, and earth), can read minds, can soul suck (using the abilities of the Great Spirit), flight, immortality (type 6, via reincarnation), in the G.S. Hao has the ability to create supernovas and black holes (it is unknown if these can be done outside the G.S.), Furyoku nullification (through equivalence this should work on anyone with any sort of spiritual energy), more or less precognition over people with some sort of spiritual energy by reading the flow of the energy itself (the equivalence rule means this counts for anyone with spiritual based power e.g. Reiatsu, Chakra etc.)

Notable Attacks/Techniques:
- Hyōi Gattai: This shamanic technique enables the shaman to integrate spirits into their body, forming a "unity" of both, their spirit and that of the ghost. The shaman would enter a special trance which enables them to synchronize their spirit with that of the ghost, allowing the ghost to possess their body and enabling the ghost to interact with the physical world. Furthermore, once integrated, the shaman takes on the knowledge & wisdom of the ghost as well as their personality.
- Over Soul: Placing a soul into a medium to achieve greater fighting strength.
- Onmyōdō: Hao's original abilities of a taijitu master from his first life gives him full control over the elements and divination powers. He is not only able to manipulate the five elements of nature, fire, earth, wood, metal, and water materially, but also spiritually as shown when he converts the spirit of fire into the spirit of water. Even without the spirit of fire, Hao possesses great elemental and divination abilities and can easily bend oni and demigods to his will. However with the addition of the spirit of fire, one can only assume that he can greatly amplify the circular properties of his art by using the spirit of fire as a power source. However, the spirit of fire uses mostly physical attacks, and on occasion its fire attributes. Since Hao is fond of the element fire, he is rarely seen using his taijitu arts in both the manga and the anime. Nevertheless, the combination that his Onmyōdō abilities and the Spirit of Fire forms definitely gives him an Over Soul second in power only to one with the great spirit.
- Reishi: This is the ability to read the hearts of others. Whilst in some ways a useful ability, it is incredibly hard to control, with the end result that Hao was constantly inundated with the thoughts of those surrounding him. As a result, his contempt for the human race grew until he sought to create a world of only shamans.
- O.S. Ohachiyo: A very basic Over Soul that creates a long black club with spikes, around the small knife medium. It's only notable feature is that it is given enough Furyoku to materialize the conscience of the spirit and that the fact that it was made to be extremely brutal to the enemy. Hao no longer uses it.
Reishi: This is Ohachiyo's power given to Hao during the Over Soul, but Hao overused the Over Soul and permanently received it.
- O.S. Zenki and Kouki: Once powerful shikigami sealed within a parchment seal by Hao to protect the Ultra Senji Ryakketsu. Hao no longer uses them.
- O.S. S.O.F. (Spirit of Fire): This is Hao's primary Over Soul. Using his Furyoku, Hao manifests the Spirit of Fire, one of the five great spirits of nature, onto the physical plane by integrating it with the oxygen in the atmosphere. Using Onmyōdō magic, Hao can alter the nature of the S.O.F. (Spirit of Fire) into any of the other five basic elements of Onmyōdō magic. Hao no longer uses it.
Magma Upper: An attack where the Spirit of Fire stretches it's arm forwards and showers the opponent in Magma, with a temperature exceeding 1200°C.
Volcano: Hao launches a large amount of fire into the air as a defensive move.
- O.S. S.O.F. (Spirit of Fire) Black Fowl (Kurobina): This is Hao's armor-type O.S. which transforms the Spirit of Fire into a high-speed jet armor. With it, Hao is capable of high-speed flight and its wing-like manipulators act as appendages for close-range combat. Mounted on the back are two high-intensity laser cannons, which can incinerate anything it targets within seconds.
As with most Armor-type O.S., this form requires little of Hao's Furyoku, but, because of the S.O.F., consumes a considerable amount of reiyoku. However, it offers capabilities which far surpass that of the normal Spirit of Fire, in its Oversoul mode. The only foreseeable drawback is the expensive reiyoku consumption. Hao no longer uses it.
Onibi: An attack that blasts the opponent with the two jetpacks on his back. This attack is strong enough to destroy the archangel Azazel, an angel whose Reiyoku level was higher than that of the Spirit of Fire.
Hao later receives the Great Spirit granting him all the powers of a God.
- O.S. Great Spirit: After Hao obtains the power and title of the Shaman King, he creates a huge yet solemn over soul that utilizes the Great Spirit itself. Much like how the Five Grand Elemental Spirits (Godaiseirei) have domain over their respective elements, this over soul possesses the ability to control any aspect that the universe retains. The majority of this over soul's attacks are centered upon a small star that is created and contained between the two large pillars emanating from its back. Although the scale of this star is far from that of the real one, the heat it emits is unbearable, making it very difficult to remain in close proximity for extended periods.
Solar Flare (Taiyou Men Bakuhatsu): Through imitating an actual solar flare, the Great Spirit is able to generate both extremely high temperature solar winds and super concentrated radioactivity, in order to produce a highly damaging and wide ranging attack.
Prominence (Kurenai Honoo): This attack makes use of the huge pillars of gas extending tens of thousands of kilometers over the actual Sun to directly attack an opponent, drastically increasing the temperature and radioactivity received.
Comet (Suisei): This technique produces a large comet, composed of ice and other frozen gases, within one of the O.S. Great Spirit's hands. However; rather than throwing it towards an enemy, it makes a slashing motion with significant force, using the comet's tail in a similar manner to a sword's blade.
Meteor: By opening up numerous compartments along the lengths of both its arms and legs, the O.S. Great Spirit can create huge amounts of meteors, that can subsequently be launched and directed towards multiple opponents.
Supernova (Choushinsei): Through forcing the star to undergo its final stages of evolution, it explodes in both an incredibly powerful and wide ranging blast, referred to as a supernova. The actual event is so powerful that it momentarily out-shines the whole galaxy, however, even with its reduction in size Yoh comments that if it had been real life it "would have disintegrated the Earth".
Black Hole (Burakkuhoru): After preforming the attack Supernova, the gravitational collapse of the remnants continues to occur, resulting in a gravitational field with such an incredibly high density that even light cannot escape. This phenomenon is referred to as a Black Hole. The attack itself absorbs anything present within the surrounding area, trapping it inside forever with no possibility to return.
Soul Suck: Hao can instantly suck out the souls of anyone in the physical world; the magnitude of this ability applies only to the strongest person it has been shown to work on and down.
He is also immortal and can resurrect instantly, meaning the only way to fight him is in the spiritual world.
