I think that hamura was the ashura preicarnation and that the hagoromo was the Indra preicarnation. And that Indra is hago's son and ashura is hamura's son who he had to bring up because he killed his dad.
that would explain why hago is so reluctant to give indra all the power because he had already done that in his lifetime, and also reluctant to kill Indra who is his son.

I was hoping that we get some background on him, and maybe involvement of him founding the Hyuga, and possibly Kimimaro's clan. Although it seems very unlucky, but Kishi never forgets anything so keep hope alive :|
