ALL WE KNOW.. is the two sons fought the holy tree that ravaged the land in anger of it's stolen fruit, sealed it inside of Hagoromo, and sealed their mother away.

I think Hamura Became the God of Death somewhere down the line.
I do understand that the 3rd and 4th hokage are on a much lower level than the original brothers, but each time they summoned the Shinigami to seal something powerful.
3rd Hokage was old and couldnt defeat Orochimaru by himself so he tried to seal him at the COST of HIS LIFE
4th Hokage was powerful but again the NINE TAILED BEAST he was able to seal only half of it's energy inside Naruto and the other half inside himself, at the COST of HIS LIFE
We all know the Juubi is on an entirely different scale and that is why I believe it appropriate for my conclusion that in order for the Juubi to be sealed inside Hagoromo and for this man to leave a legacy, and have transmigrants, invent Ninshuu, and wandering the earth.
I believe the story of Naruto as a transmigrant of the Sage is the storyline. We are not meant to know transmigrant who would be on Par with Naruto and Sasuke.
Hamura was the real MVP and helped his brother attain the power to change the world. He humbly accepted his death, SEALING ONLY HALF of the Juubi inside Hagoromo, with the other half inside of his dead body, it was too powerful and he became the god of death.
The Uzumaki and Hyuga clan I believe may still have come from Hagoromo just as a recessive gene in his DNA, lying dormant later to be awaken in the world.
This also gives light to the Uzumaki clan having a mask that could simply summon the Shinigami.
