"Cortana, all I need to know is did we lose them?"

"I think we both know the answer to that", replied Cortana.

It was clear to BOSS that this was their fate. To remain on Reach as doomed soldiers while humanity's last hope floated away in the distance. Chris, the leader of BOSS, sat down against the rock with his helmet crushed by a Scarab. Tyler sat next to him, smoking a cigarette as he watched his homeworld burn. Burn to nothingness.

Tyler, Chris' right-hand man, turned to Chris slowly. "So,...this is it? All of our hard work? Our sacrifice? Everything we accomplished is about to go down the shit pipes?"

Chris responded calmly. "Sure looks that way, buddy. Damn. Can't believe he's gone. How could this have happened? Were were SO,...DAMN,....". He sighed in disappointment. "...close...we WERE close, weren't we?"

--2 years before--

"Alright, men! I want this recon mission to go as smooth as a new-born baby's ass! Understood?"

"Sir, yes sir!"

It was Chris. The newest commander of BOSS. Him and his men have been training for months now. Fighting to stop the rebel modders of Reach, ready to take down the UNSC at any cost. Even though BOSS had 6 Spartans, they were the best group of guys any person could meet. Brutal, but trustworthy.

Of course there was the leader, Chris. He usually is very subtle in an intense situation, but always has a plan. Classic leader material. Then there was his other equal, Tyler. They have been buddies since they were Privates in the UNSC Academy of Spartan Soldiers. Tyler seems overstressed most of the time, but like Chris, never gives up.

The other 4 Spartans joined gradually throughout the existence of BOSS. There was Andrew, also known as "The Dragon", due to his natural mishaps of fire usage. Bradley, the brains of the group, always had a strategy when it came to fighting mods with mods. Of course, some of his experiments tend to backfire. James, the quiet one. No one knows why he's so quiet. But he's the team's best sniper. I guess that's what makes him so good. And finally, there's "Shotgun". Nobody knows his real name, but he always carries around a shotgun with one bullet in it. Not sure why.

BOSS was just about to set out on a recon mission ordered by Captain Lucard. Their mission was to infiltrate a local power plant and find out what hacker activity was going on in there. Whenever the was hacker activity going on around Reach, it was never a pretty sight.

The Pelican dropped and the 6 stepped into the carrier. Chris looked around at his men.

"Listen, guys. This is going to a mission that could change the tide of the war. Now I want you guys to be on your toes and ready for anything. If any of us are discovered, it's game over."

Shotgun stood up, alerted. "You mean this is an undercover mission, sir?"

Chris nodded. "And an important one at that."

Tyler looked at the both of them in confusion. "Wait, wait. Why would we go undercover when they already know we're coming."

"Well that's just it,...", Andrew chimed in. "They know BOSS is coming, but they have no idea,...". He began to realize as Chris finished his sentence. '...that a group of local "modders" are coming to pay them a visit."

"Psh!,..", exclaimed Triple, "...and just how do you expect US to impersonate a bunch of high-class modders?"

"I believe I can answer that". It was Bradley in the back corner, working on 6 bright-green packs. "These will aide us in our disguise. I've implanted a X-2100 ModioPack chip into each pack designed to simulate modder abilities, without actually donning them".

"Neato!", said Tyler excitingly. Bradley started up again. "Now I would like if you would all please hand in your dog tags". The rest of the team looked at Chris for reassurance.

"Well, you heard him men. Hand in your tags!"

One-by-one, the soldiers all handed their personal dog tags to Bradley. "This is to make sure that, in the event one of us is captured, they will not know our identities". The pilot then came over the intercom.

"Alright, BOSS! We're approaching the plant fast. Unfortunately there's no LZ. You guys are going down airborne."

"Aw, shit!", said Chris. "Ok, Spartans. You know the drill! We all drop on my mark!"

The 6 Spartans activated their ModioPacks and waited for Chris's signal.

"On me, Soldiers!......3......2......"

The Spartans all get into jumping position. Dragon turns to Shotgun. "Let's do it to it!"

"....1! Go! Go! Go!", cried the commander.

They all jump on a rocky slope and land in a grassy land, just 500 yards short of the plant. Chris slowly rises followed by the other 5. "Move in, soldiers".
