-Indra didn't have Rinnegan (obviously)
So , Sage had the Sharingan

The first image proves that Hagoromo ' awakened ' the Rinnegan (He wasn't born with Rinnegan)

Of course he awakened the Rinnegan, or else he'd look weird as an infant. Uchiha awaken the Sharingan but that doesn't mean they had a prior eye ability.

Folks won't like to here that! An there's a scan of Yakushi talkin to Madara where they say that the Sharingan evolved into the Rinne if the right steps are taken.. But folks still say Hogo never had that Doujutsu because the manga only shows him at his peek with the Rinne SM 6paths..
