From a PM I received with a member of another Naruto forum:
The plot-hole is the validity of Kaguya using the first Infinite Tsukuyomi.
(I think some other members of the forum realized this too.)

The issue is, in order to use the Infinite Tsukuyomi, the eye of the Shinju must be projected off of the moon.
But, the Sage of Six Paths created the moon on his deathbed, so how exactly did Kaguya use the Infinite Tsukuyomi?

It's possible that Kaguya outlived her sons; Hagoromo never states that Kaguya died in his life-time.
(Kaguya could have used the first Infinite Tsukuyomi after the death of Hagoromo, and possibly, Hagoromo's brother)
(Hagoromo could have observed Kaguya's actions from his transcendent realm, thus giving him knowledge of Kaguya's doings.)

However, if that's the case, Hagoromo and his brother were likely unable to face Kaguya in combat due to their advanced age. (Remember, the Sage of Six Paths was on his death bed.)

Is it possible that the original incarnations of Asura and Indra faced Kaguya in the past, and defeated her in order to dispel the first Infinite Tsukuyomi?
Or, did Kaguya have some other means to use the Infinite Tsukuyomi?

Hopefully, Kishi explains these circumstances without pulling out another Deus ex Machina or Retcon.

So, what are your opinions?

Someone made a thread about this a while back

OT: Would Indra and Ashura really help each other when even though they were fighting?

My best guess is that Kaguya's version of the I.T didn't require a moon. The only reason why Madara needed the moon was to project it from his third eye because he's not Kaguya level. Kaguya received her power from directly digesting the fruit of the Shinju tree, while Madara is literally generations ahead (which in retrospect means generations behind) of Kaguya, so his power is obviously nowhere near what it needs to be to do it without the moon. That's my opinion on it. :)

I think this image implies what happened: Kaguya being few times more powerful than Madara actually projected the light from her third eye itself, just like the over shadow represents.

Just because she used I.T doesn't mean she needed the Moon. Remember Madara and Obito needed the Moon so they could cast it over the entire planet. Kaguya probably did it on certain people.

It is also speculated that she used her Byakugan. Remember, she's the strongest being in NV, her Byakugan range will obviously be OP.

She used her Byakugan to cast IT on all people.
