So, the Uzumakis were known for one thing, their sealing prowess and longetivity.

The only people who were truly uniqe and while extremely dangerouus, werent as feared as the Senju or Uchiha, were the Uzumakis and Hyuugas. This leads to my next idea, of one major ability of the Brother. And this is

. Think about it. The 8 gates are often described as gateways or SEALS to hld the chakra off. We know the Uzumakis were great an unsealing shit. The Hyuuga knew everything about the chakra pathway and the Uzumakis had great life-force. On top f that, the 8 gates is the only thing which would make Brother as strong as Hagomoro. Maybe he invented the 8 gates, and peformed it(and thus died). This is a very logical idea.

Guys who said the brother had two sons. The brother could or might have only had one son resulting in the hyuga I think the uzumaki and senju are close relatives like a sort of branch off clan. If ashura started the senju clan basically and chose a senju(hashirama) to incarnate into it would make sense forum to find somebody as close to senju as possible to incarnate into, not some cousins descendant cause that would make no sense since Indra kept incarnating into uchiha people.

not deny your idea it´s quite possible but my opinion is that the brother died by seeling kaguya/Jubi an then give the rest of his powers to hagoromo or some stuff like that
