Had Neji and Gaara fought Chuunin Exams, who would have won?

I'll say gaara. Neji's attacks aren't large enough, fast enough or piercing enough to get through his sand shields.

Speaking of that Neji is about depleting chakra and Gaara doesn't use chakra to control the sand

Even if neji blocked the points it wouldn't stop the sand cause I basically has a mind of its own. Also neji can only block the points if he can get past the sand. Which I doubt.

Neji could have plowed through Gaara in close range, piercing even his sand armor with Jūken.

However, if Gaara made a sand-sphere and partially/completely transformed into Shukaku, he'd dominate.

But Lee never used gates on Neji; which is something makes Lee superior to him combatwise.
Gaara would take this one; Neji could deflect one or two attacks of sand; and that would be it for him. He does not have much of a chance to use speed against Gaara; that was not his own speciality. Gaara would crush him.

Gaara - to defeat Gaara you need brute power or insane speed. Neji has neither.
