Not having any speed boosts activated, I can just barely keep up with the speed you're coming in at. But with experience comes prediction, judging by the posture of your character and the slight twist of the torso before impact, I can estimate where your first would land. Just as it is about to come in, I duck my head downwards and move in a forwards direction whilst throwing my left arm skywards and back, with an open palm so my knuckles connect with your incoming fist, slapping it and changing it's momentum towards your right. However, my balance is heavily distorted and my posture is weak due to being much slower and reacting in a dazed manner, something someone can take great advantage off.

As my initial strike is thrown off to my right, I allow the momentum to carry me onto my next attack. Turning my body torwards the right as I move in a tad closer, lift my left knee into your stomach while you'd be in the bending-like position, forcing a strong blow into your stomach which would lift you several feet off the ground. Planting my left foot back into the floor once you've been lifted off, I then raise my leftt arm above you and bring down my elbow into your lower back, forcing you back down.

Admiring your speed and quick reflexes, I'm hit by both attacks, being knocked into the air while I was momentarily compromised of good footing, then knocked back down by the thundering elbow delivered.

Ok ok :beat: you're a quick learner. Well then your adaptation seems on point, so let's have a bit of theory time. Do you know how to manually close your gates instead of letting them run out?

I've gotten to opening the 2nd gate.

The Hachimon are eight 'gates' located through the human body, these serve as restrictions to allow a person to utilize only a small portion of their entire prowess. Given these points make our body weaker, otherwise keep us in our base body attributes. Which is a good thing, otherwise we'd die faster. By opening one of these points, and consecutively more of them, we unlock more of our hidden strength and increase our ability and power. Needless to say using the EIG comes with drawbacks.

When we open the gates our body goes through some changes, darker skin, veins popping out and other crazy stuff. They all have names by which we identify them, life, death, wonder gate, etc.

I sit down to replay what just happened in my mind. Going back to the start to when the gate was opened and how it felt, what I felt and could do. Assimilating the entire process, I concentrate and attempt to open it once more. Pouring a generous amount of chakra into the same spot in my brain to open The Kaimon Gate, the chakra is pooled with force and attempting to feel once more the sense of "unlocking" the gate.

You've gone through a couple of trainers, huh? Oh well, I'm here now. Hopefully you won't need a fourth guy.
Tell me what you've learned so far, and, more importantly, what you feel comfortable with so far.

See, we're not going to do the whole 'I push chakra through my coils to force the Gate open'-thing. We're going back to basics. Nitty gritty. We're going to talk about how the Gates work, and we're going to use them. Each and every one.

I've learned where the first 2 gates are located and their names (Kaimon, first gate in the brain), how to open them through sheer will and force. The Gates act pretty much as "locks" on our inner strength and thus we normally use around 10% of our full capabilities. Considered the peak of Taijutsu, opening the Gates gives us access to the rest of our power. I very much enjoyed the training of the first gate, as for the second I never got around actually going through it entirely. So it'd be cool if we can go over that one before moving forward. Actually I think I didn't even actually open that one, somehow I felt I did.

Sheer will is a good way to explain it. I like to see the Gates as a metaphor for hard work. Lee wasn't full of shit when he talked about 'talent vs hard work.' This is something you'll see in real-life as well, and it'll suck just as bad.
Some people just 'got' it. That X-factor.
The rest of us have to make do with what we've got. Let me tell you, though; I got the Gates, and any man who challenges me to a real good fight will get to taste my fist a thousand times in two seconds because of said Gates.
That's the beauty of being an Eight Inner Gates Master. I get to use this stuff twice. So will you.

I'll do my best to teach you how to use this tool of destruction correctly. I don't want you to end up never using the Gates like a lot of EIGMs. This is a tool. use it at your discretion and with care, but use it.

Tell me where the different Gates are located, then tell me a bit about the 'boost' opening the Kaimon will grant you.

I'm glad you're telling me this, one of the things that made me less interested in training was the fact that most EIGMs tell me to use it only once and only on dire occassions. I for one think that like any ability they're to be used at the user's discretion and whenever he deems it or feels like using it. Lee used them multiple times throughout the series, heck that's how he got around in missions. I believe people overrate the EIG as some heavenly sent ability that should be used once in a life time, but like you said, it's a tool. Meant to be used, as there would be no point in learning them otherwise.

1st in the Brain, 2nd in the brain as well, two more in the spinal cord, below the stomach, in the stomach and the most fearful one. In the heart, the Eight Gate. The boost of opening the Kaimon in terms of RP allows our taijutsu to gain +5 damage (some I dare say is pitiful) and have an increase in speed of x1.5, consequently we take -5 damage from using the Kaimon. The first gate acts as the official remover of our restrains, putting our muscles up to 100%. However it's not until we open higher gates that we can actually make full use of this new found strength.

Right.
The thing is that EIG is not only overrated as an ability, but, honestly, it's overrated generally. People seem to think it's a one-hit wonder that'll secure the win for the user easily. Well, that's not how it works. If I pop the seventh gate people will still be able to fight me. Some people will underestimate the speed bonus and unless you want to go to a Mod/Sensei you'll just have to live with that when it happens. Not if; when.

It's the sixth, seventh and eighth gate that pays for the whole party. Anything below will be dangerous. Why? Because the ninjutsu that usually keeps you alive during fights in unavailable to you when the gates pop. Why open the first gate? Because it's fun. It won't win you the fight. +5 strength is laughably little and the 1.5x will still leave most people able to track you.

All in all; a waste of time in a real battle.
Or is it? Tell me your thoughts. Don't sugarcoat it. Tell me what you think, not what you think I want you to think.

I like every single gate, from the 2nd to the 8th. My Gyojin is naturally 1.5x faster and has superior strength, so it's almost as if i'm in 1st gate state all the time, so that doesn't really do anything for me other than the +5 DMG which would be kind of pointless to use, as it doesn't wage much diference.
The 8IG don't seem to have (imo) many repercussions. As a 'user' I can deal with using B ranks only for 1 turn after my gates close, and low stamina for 2 turns? I think I can keep myself alive through those 2 turns to regain my full strength. One thing I don't like is the 8th Gate restriction, you die immediately afterwards, but that's a given. What itches is the fact that it only lasts 2 turns, that's practically nothing. Three turns? that's respectable.

On that note, you know that Will power of the Heart technique right? the one that let's us pull our inner wills and keep on fighting when we were supposed to die, for 3 more turns. Can we use this after the 8th gate closes? thus earning ourselves 3 more turns of life. I don't see why not.

I bet you expected a definitive answer from me, didn't you? Well, I'll have to disappoint you on that one. The truth is; I honestly don't know. As far as I know that's never been tried. Is it something I'd do? Nope. Want to know why? Because the second you use the Eighth Gate in a fight one of two things has happened: 1) you want to show off by killing an inferior opponent, in which case you've learned nothing from me, or 2) you need a boost to defeat a superior opponent, in which case, yeah, you've learned nothing from me.
I don't like risks. I've done some really risky things in my RP career and it has always come back to bite me in the ass.

What do you do when the opponent opens a Gate that'll kill him in a couple of turns? You dig in. Speed on NB is different, as you no doubt know. Power is measured in rank. You can defend yourself against the Eighth Gate and people will do so.

But yeah, I'd say that Willpower of the Heart would extend your life. It wouldn't keep the Gate open, but it'd keep you on your feet. It makes sense, especially after we saw what happened to Guy in the manga. He didn't exactly die.

Anyway, 1.5x natural speed 'cause you're a Gyojin and the 1.5x bonus from the first Gate. That's not bad. It adds up, you know? If you're really hardcore you can keep the Gates going for a looooong time. Open a 'higher' one every third turn to keep the blood pumping. It'll be a slow, but deadly ascent.
What's the downside? Well, once the Gates close you're done, unless you're an EIGM; then you get another try.
Still, a war will usually see you fight more than two battles. the Gates aren't suited for every type of fight. You'll know when to use them and when not to.

Let's do a scenario. Say I'm a Hyuga with all the toys... would you open the Gates on me?

The thing is you only really die once you used up the 8th Gate. There is close to no risk opening a gate beneath that one, aside from shortness of stamina and the restriction on the ranks you can use for techniques. That said, I don't like showing off, nor do I deem people "strong enough to use the EIG". I'm the type that'll use the gates in 2 scenerios, 1. I deem the battle or situation suitable for the Gates or 2. My opponent wants to go all out. In which case, they can expect the Gates at some point, that goes for any opponent that drives me to the edge of combat.
Regardless of their power levels or ability, I don't underestimate, nor do I overestimate anyone. So opening the 8IG for me, is dependant on the battle, and not on my opponent. Needless to say, i won't live and die by this code, i'll make exceptions for sure, I know that.

No. I probably wouldn't use the 8IG on a Hyuga. It'd just be a waste, they have easier time handling speedsters and they're deadly in close range. Making the odds of putting them down with the Gates lower, and I rather not take chances, specially if the Gates are going to be involved.

Yeah, as an EIGM I can open up to the 6th Gate instantly without spending a move and with no drawbacks. Makes for a heck of a left hook, let me tell you.

Anyway, I understand where you're coming from, but I just want to make the point that Gates aren't always 'all out.' I've had 'all out' where I didn't use the Gates because, like with the Hyuga, I knew my opponent had countermeasures ready for them. There are people who will use CJs that will knock you on your ass and generally make you feel really, really frustrated when you try to overwhelm them with the Gates, but that's NB for you.
And I would never ever ever use the Gates in a serious fight. In my eyes that's basically like giving up. Unless your opponent flops his move, which shouldn't happen if he/she is competent, you will lose. You'll go out with a bang, but you will go out nonetheless.

Anyway, back to the technical stuff. With a bit of effort the Gates can be a versatile tool. Personally I use the Gates in conjunction with Keotsu's brilliant ZX Buster, allowing me to extend my range, thus pratically increasing my speed even more, but other than that I'm a simple punch-it-till-it-dies kind of fighter with the Gates.
As a Gyojin you have options. Fishman Karate, the natural speed and strength boost. I don't know much about your style or what kind of CJs/CFS you have, but the Clan alone affords you some options.
Tell me about how you would like to use the Gates, what techniques would you use them with, etc.

I don't have any CFS to compliment my Inner Gates, nor do I've any CJs that would go with them at all. So as far as what techniques i'd use the 8IG with. I imagine i'll use what the 8IG is about, body techniques. Mostly the 8IG cannon jutsu, Lotus, Daytime, etc. Given EIG is a style of combat itself, it alone offers a lot of variety without having to restrain myself to existing techniques, but rather freeform ones. In a prolonged battle I do envision myself using techniques that would put me at an advantage by maximizing the potential of the Gates. Putting the opponent in situations where they are less likely to counter them properly. At the moment I can't think of said techniques though.
I guess i'm the trial-and-error type. Though as far as the Gyojin style is concerned, it's techniques don't have much to offer that would be of use while using the Gates. Now if only I were to submit a couple of Personal CCJ that would work in unison with the Gates, that would be a diferent story.

Huh, that makes things easier. See, the canon EIG techniques are a special bunch and they pull the user towards a certain attack-pattern and style. After all, the Gates have only really been used by Lee and Gai, both of whom are direct Goken users. The intricacies of the Front Lotus don't belong on the NB battlefield, not because the technique uncool or anything, but because it takes too long and it leaves you airborne, close to your opponent. You don't want that.
Take a look at the rest of the EIG techniques, would you? Or, at least, the ones you find interesting. Can you discern a pattern? A series of interconnecting weaknesses or strengths?

The most notable pattern or similiarity in all or the majority of EIG techniques is that they put the opponent airbone, it's always launch into the air, and deal the finishing blow from above into the ground. Most of the EIG attacks Gai and Lee have used throughout the series also involves them being in the air along with their opponents, needless to say that doesn't mean EIG is an airbone combat style, it simply means that it puts the user at a greater advantage. As the target loses footing and balance, while unable to see the user.
