So sometimes when i watch Anime episodes i see an extra episode in another category of the same anime name

When i look up the synopsis it says "Alternative ending" and its kinda different from the ending of the normal anime episodes

Are alternative endings like non canon to the original endings or something like tht
The thing is i watched an alternative ending episode and i kinda regret seeing it because i I didn't like that ending

It seems to me that alternative endings please aggressive fanbases who are unsatisfied with the plot of the ending, even if the quality and direction of the ending were high-quality and well-thought-out.

Sometimes the endings demanded are incredibly shallow and serve little purpose, like the NaruSaku fanbase who actually created and signed a petition for Kishimoto to create an alternate ending featuring Naruto marrying Sakura.

Edit: On your question of canon, unless the creator willingly trashed the original and made an entirely new ending for which the rest of the series has to lead to, then no, the original ending is always the canon one.

It's most likely from the visual novel, in most visual novels your choices determine how the novel ends, anime adapted from VNs might want to show more than the "true" end.
E.g in Steins;gate
there are about 6 or 7 ends, like letting Mayuri die or letting kurisu die or going back in time with John Titor...... The anime adapted the end where nobody dies, which is what would happen if you make all the right choices in the visual novel

some animes are based on video games that has some RPG element into it.

So it makes sense that those games would also have different storylines and endings.

Hence, we get the same anime but a slightly different approach/ending.

Fate/ series are a great example of this.

As well as Personas

But if its just a anime adapted from manga/novels, its mainly that the anime caught up and went past the manga/novels, and they had to make one up (Full Metal Alchemist, Shaman King are examples of this)

Or that people quite disliked the ending as it didnt add up on how the story developed. (Naruto)

Fate series doesn't have an "Alternative ending", it has routes, meaning there isn't one major ending that is than higher level on others, all the route endings are equally important/canonical.

OT: An Alternative ending is not the primary ending, thus it ins't the as important as the first, but it is still considered canon if done by the author. Most of the time it's just pure fanserivce but it could also give the reader an insight on multiple perspectives and timelines which is good but not necessary for most stories (and lol, I know most of you recognize fan service as nudity but it's not)
