well i dont think so,he is already to messed up.and if i was someone on naruto,i wouldnt give guy any chakra so he could go in the 8th gate just so he can die after.

I think Gai will open the 8th gate but please keep in mind that there is a reason he has a animal summon that happens to be a Turtle which in Japan is linked to longevity. He might use it then revive by using the turtle, maybe the turtle has a jutsu like grandma Chiyo used on Gaara.

Gai has kicked Obito's @ss more than once when they were kids.
First in the chunin exam forest of death like setting and another time in the 1 on 1 chunin exam matches.

He will do it again, this time in 8 gate mode as adults.
