Gurenn lagan was a interesting show however there is no way to review this anime except to divide between the good and the bad.

This series was crazy asspull after asspull. It is crazy. It eventually moves on in a cycle where everything is predictable. The heroes face a new villain that they will beat shitless with hardly any effort or casualties. True there are a lot of deaths and it gets a bit serious but the plot no jutsu is just crazy. I literally felt no concern for the heroes and knew they were going to win. And not to mention after Simon’s heartfelt growth and being the savior of the universe he disappears and becomes a nobody, which is thoroughly disappointing, I mean how would you feel if at the end of Naruto, Naruto doesn’t become hokage and isn’t recognized by anyone and everyone has forgotten about him and all his exploits, not only is that silly, but it is stupid.

Ok what I loved about this show was Kamina. He is easily on my top 5 for anime characters (1. Shanks, 2. Itachi, 3. Lelouch, 4. Shinji Akira, 5. Kamina) Kamina was the epitome of epic and made this show shine, everyone soon copied him , and that was cool. The best thing however for this show was his death, resulting in the episodes following the second half, which I really enjoyed. Kamina’s death made this anime unique and special. With the death of Kamina it was an exploration that was rarely taken in anime. It would be like if Misato died in first few episodes of Evangelion, or if Nunnaly died in the first few episodes of Code geass. I also loved how Simon developed after the death of Kamina, he changed from a “shinji” Shinji meaning weak and kind of pathetic but with the occasional background, to a badass at Kamina’s level. Also I loved how the series would have the good guys win, there are very few shows around when the heroes win so easily even though the shows makes it look intense. (compare gundam seed to this anime and you will get what I am saying)

In the end I will have to give the series about a 7.99999999/10. I liked it but I was yelling at the screen for the lack of concern and how the heroes won with little effort, however I did enjoy the character development and there were not any characters that I hated in this show. If I had to describe the series, I would call it, “a light hearted anime, that you will enjoy again and again, full of fanservice, epic fights, and overhaxed characters”

Also after I was done watching the anime I watched episode 333 of Naruto shippuden and was like, “the gap of power between these two anime’s is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyto deep” I mean after watching dbz you never have the feeling of a power gap between naruto and dbz, because they both on average showcase mountain busting or really fast punches, so there is a gap but now by that far. But when you have people throwing galaxies around like in gurren lagan, its makes Dbz look like normal humans punching walls. My point being trying to transfer out of gurren lagan to another anime is very hard, because unless that naime features galaxy busting it will look pathetic. It definelty made dbz look pathetic in terms of power that’s for sure,. Threatening to blow a planet(the most recent dbz movie with the most powerful villain) to a anime that throws galaxies around(billions upon billions of planets) there is no comparison.
