Switzerland is the safest place in the world.

Yet they have some of the highest gun carry in the world.

Gun politics in Switzerland are unique in Europe. The vast majority of men between the ages of 20 and 30 are conscripted into the militia and undergo military training, including weapons training. The personal weapons of the militia are kept at home as part of the military obligations; Switzerland thus has one of the highest militia gun ownership rates in the world.[1]

Perhaps they are a prime example everyone else should be following.

Switzerland has some military service rules.(every male does military service like you said) And I believe in Switzerland(could be wrong-someone from Switzerland could confirm it) it's mandatory for males to own guns.(adult citizens) For them, given their military service rules, I would presume the ownership of guns is a mandatory community duty, and not a matter of free choice like the US. In other words, the defense of Switzerland is dependant on every male citizen, not just specialised soldiers like other countries.(like you said in the thread.)

That leads to discipline and honour, which would obviously make gun crime less likely in Switzerland than in the US. It's a difference of values, not the weapon that causes the damage.
