"emitting cold heat" - cold heat isn't just a juxtaposition, cold is an example of symbolism too.
"buried deep in peat" - natural peat lies on the ground, with soil. Peat itself is decayed vegetation, which is also symbolic.
"sharper only by one" - On the subject of claws... claws are a weapon - a form of power. Only one has "sharper claws" than this.
"maybe assisting" - Begs the question, is this doing a service which assists?

And of course, the constant referral to red.
